Un frickin real. How many men have EVER front run a 3:31, much less front run a 3:31 and closed in 53? Let's get Colin, Simeon, and Trent into a 1500 together. One of those guys will go 3:29.
Front run? Are you serious? he was towed along for 1100M with zero traffic. He had an ultimate completely unobstructed, no traffic at all, free roll. Is it impressive? Of course it is, it indicates large ability, was it the easiest way to run 3:31.x in college? That I have ever seen? Again, of course it was. But this was not some "front run" job by a long shot.
Wow. Perfect conditions for a 1500 - 70 degrees, slight north wind that can sometimes swirl counterclockwise in Hayward and "almost" give a tail wind the entire way around the track. Regardless what a time, especially the last lap.
OK Ackley boy. Next you’ll tell us he has the perfect build to run the 1500m.
Outstanding Salinger reference....but you just missed.
Holden called him Ackley Kid (he hated when he called him that!)

3:31.68 winning by 7.7 sec is an extraordinary mark. NCAA record.

You’re too picky. That was a good post because he nailed that poster’s intent perfectly. Simeon ran 3:31. And it’s killing that jealous dolt. Now, as someone else suggested, get Simeon away from Jerry’s Injury Farm and even better things will happen in short order.

Actually, it was a GREAT post/reference and I said so.
Notably, what he said was that he got healthy by stopping Jerry's workouts when he felt like it was the right time, rather than trying to do every meat grinder workout Jerry puts out there. The great coaches know more often than not when to listen to their athletes and to coach them individually. Great to see this talent finally realizing his potential after some really tough years at Oregon. Remember that this is his third year at Oregon. He was class of 2023.
I regret not having this perfect setup in my prime to run a mile/1500m P.R. Drafting off of another runner for the first 1,100m + ideal weather. + home crowd.
Not to take away from Simeon's accomplishment, he shattered the record. Some other teams should take note and use this same strategy so their 1500m runners all run PRs.
They might not have ideal weather at their home meet(s) though. Or if the university is at altitude, this wouldn't work either.

This is inarguable.
Yes it is . . . for in-season records
Just a reminder:
When including summer racing, the "all seasons" collegiate men's record -- or considered by some to be the record -- is 3:30.90 by former Duck Andrew Wheating following his senior year in 2010. Andrew was out of collegiate eligibility by then so turned pro that July -- then busted out that then-mind-boggling 3:30 pr a couple weeks later.
However, Cole Hocker's 3:31.40 from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics is listed as UO's outdoor record. Apparently, since Cole had eligibility left but turned pro following Tokyo, that is why he is still on top of UO's leader board.
Also note, Wisconsin junior Adam Spencer ran a 3:31.81 in July 2023, still listed as the WI record. And, he did return for his senior year.
Above are the other sub-3:32s by collegians of which I am aware.
In any case, there are still faster marks out there for Simeon & others to continue chasing.

Others have already said he’ll be better when he gets away from Jerry. They’re right.
With the Oregon guys’ times tonight, the Big 10 now has the NCAA #1-3 times in the 1500. In addition, the current 10th best time in the conference is 3:39.85. Time to start practicing water jumps before conference champs if you’re a 3:40 guy
Why not move up to 10k? An aerobically strong 1500 guy in a tactical 10k could do some legitimate damage - just look at Mo Farah

The Wheating mark was after he had graduated. Not a college mark. He was 4th, DL Monaco.
I did not realize Hocker was still in school when he ran 3:31.40, so that would be the fastest mark by a college runner, albeit out of season, by a scant .29 sec.
Birnbaum's 3:31.69 is the new NCAA mark, and trails only the Hocker mark (where he placed 6th in a fast Olympic race) overall.
