I don't have any information concerning whether or not this race was clean, and it seems as if no one else does on this thread either. What I can talk about first hand is how many of the other SUNY coaches are talking about this. Geneseo has a decades-long track record of doing underhanded recruiting crap. When certain coaches tried to directly ask geneseo coaches about their practices, without reporting them or making a formal complaint, geneseo ended up making formal complaints against them. When formal complaints were lodged nothing ever came of them even though this is been well documented and well attested. Given geneseos track record, something's up here.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by "underhanded recruiting crap"? What is it that they do different from other schools that makes them bad? Genuinely curious. If you could also explain what the exact details of the "formal complaints" are I'd be interested as well.
yeah not sure what they're on about. I was recruited by Suny G (back when Woods was still coaching) and had nothing but positive things to say about their staff - nothing felt underhanded at all. Granted, I was a mid 16s 5k guy in HS so I certainly wasn't the top of their list but I didn't get a wiff of anything underhanded. If I was in-state I almost certainly would have ended up there. Hell, Woods even cheered me on once it was obvious I was making a bid for a national qualifying time despite being a rival.
Good program, great trails around campus, solid education. It's not rocket surgery why they're able to pull athletes other SUNYs can't.
Regardless, incredible race and performance. There's something really special about that Bucknell track. Having a DIII guy set the facility record is pretty dang cool
Legit in what way? Like Rowan, Geneseo is basically a community college for locals.
But your first point is correct — D1 ain’t for everyone. The patron saint of D3, Andrew Rock, grew up in a town of like 500 people in rural Wisconsin. Lax was a much better fit for him than Madison.
ROCK MENTION!!! My GOAT
Andrew Rock is as elite as it gets. Dude was dropping 44 as a D3 nobody over two decades ago.
You have to put some respect on that man's name -- gold medalist Andrew Rock, US champ Andrew Rock, like a million time D3 All-American Andrew Rock. Seth would have to travel back to 1988 and drink Ben Johnson's blood to be in the same conversation as that dude.
From what I could find, he didn't break 45 in college. Rather than throw a tantrum about being incorrect, why not just post what his best time was and when he ran it?

“Fastest 400m time in NCAA Division III history of 44.66”, from the Bethel website. Corroborated by the D3 Historians report.

I'm not really following this thread, but as someone who an for a rival school about 20 years ago I'll also chime in. It pains me to say it, but the program was very respectable and was run the right way. Nothing but good things to say about the coaches back then (especially Woods), and their athletes were fully bought into the program and we're committed to excellence. Let's keep any negative sentiments where they belong, on obvious dirtbags like the people in and around the Rowan team.
He has a 3:59.55 mile pr and his 1500 pr is slightly faster than this one, 3:41.69. Considering that he wasn't close to the Youngs or Sahlmans at Newbury Park, he's developed nicely.
Lyndaker, Jack Brown, and everyone else in the mile at indoor nationals dodged a nuclear bomb when Hagan scratched the mile. With as fast as he running and closing it will take a ridiculous upset to beat him, just like Chasen hunt in the 5k last year.
