The thread title was initially incorrect. It said the NBA waived Ivey. We have corrected the title. Also the OP failed to provide a link explaining why Ivey, the 5th pick in the 2022 draft and the son of the Notre Dame women's basketball coach, was waived. Here is a link:
Jaden Ivey wants his boss to know Jesus as his savior so that he may have eternal life. Catholicism is faith plus works, that is in direct opposition of the Biblical Gospel. Stand firm Jaden and keep preaching Christ in a world that desperately needs the truth. Time is getting short.
You have to really cherry-pick your bible study to reach such a conclusion. The New Testament is nothing if not a call for "good works".
Christianity is 100% about Christ's complete work of redemption. Without Christ it has no truth or saving power. The New Testament is extremely clear on salvation through faith alone. No cherry picking needed, just a read through and understanding of what is being taught. Paul was given the clear message of the Gospel to bring to the Gentiles. Jesus was a stumbling block to the Jews and is still a stumbling block to many religions that still think they must "do something" to inherit eternal life. Dead in our trespasses and sins is clear in Ephesians, dead people can't do anything. We can work really hard to be a "good" person, but the wages of sin is death. Christ is the narrow gate.
1: His First Amendment rights were not violated. He is still allowed to say what he wants and to practice his religion in a manner meaningful to him. The government is not stopping him from doing so, and he is not being arrested. The First Amendment, however, doesn't relieve you from the consequences of said speech.
2: The NBA and the Chicago Bulls are both private institutions, and also have rights. They can choose to employ or, in this case, not employ, whoever they want for whatever reason they want. This includes not being tall enough, or fast enough, or athletic enough, but also includes being a team player and a positive contributor to the locker room community.
3: Jaden is represented, presumably, by the NBPA. I have yet to see a statement by them, but he is certainly allowed to file a complaint through them if he feels he was wrongfully terminated. That being said, he is still owed the full $10.1 million under his contract.
Pathetic slave mentality. It's okay of his "owners" ruin his career over dislike of his opinion cuz they are not the govt.
Lol are you of the belief that a player should be able to say whatever they want and an owner should be powerless to waive them?
You "corrected the title" to something completely misleading. 🙄 He was waived because he expressed his religious beliefs in a judgmental and hateful way that brought disrepute to the organization.
The First Amendment prohibits the government from passing laws that abridge speech or the free exercise thereof. A private enterprise (like an NBA team) is still free to dismiss an employee (a contracted player in the NBA) who expresses opinions that are contrary to the team's values.
It’s not politics, it’s his religion. Besides, he was only responding to the NBA’s overt pro-LGBT agenda.
”The world proclaims LGBTQ, right?" Ivey said during the video stream. "They proclaim Pride Month and the NBA does, too. They show it to the world. They say, 'Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.' They proclaim it on the billboards. They proclaim it on the streets. Unrighteousness."
Far as I know, he didn’t tell anyone to vote for Trump. The Bulls just don’t like his views on sexuality.
Nope not "responding." Nobody asked him. And lets be honest, regardless of how you feel about identity politics and such, he went a little farther than just asking about it. He went full religious cult guy and shared way too much.
If the NBA is allowed to push its pro-LGBT view, they should allow for people to disagree. If Ivey shares his disgust of Trump, no one would have cared. Only certain kinds of religious or social views are disallowed.

As if Trump hasn’t fired federal employees who share their disgust of him? Let me guess, that kind of speaking out against your boss is verboten.

No, I very strongly disagree with Trump firing anyone who disagrees with him (beyond of course Presidential appointees who work for the President. His anti-liberty tendencies are one of the reasons I have never voted for him.

The NBA pushes a pro-Black view by celebrating Black History Month. Do you think White NBA players should keep their job if they say disparaging things about Black people?
The NBA pushes a pro-women view by hiring women as referees and supporting the WNBA. Do you think NBA players should keep their job if they say disparaging things about women?
Ivey said disparaging things about Catholics too. Are you cool with that, or is it only LGBT people you think that employees should be able to disparage and still keep their job?

Okay but he has fired people for dissent. You made it sound like no one is ever punished at their job for bashing him.
Let’s just be frank about what’s going on here, and in our wider culture.
We do not really respect free expression. We respect only certain views. Deviation from the dominant, pro-gay/trans ideology, will be oppressed anywhere leftists are in charge. Millions of Americans of different religions hold opposing views that more closely align with their holy scriptures. But leftist don’t care, they have contempt for those people and think they deserve whatever happens to them.
Leftists will make classic Hollywood movies about the oppression of the McCarthy era in which some actors lost jobs for being communists. The will weep and mourn and never let us forget it. There will be no movies about the countless thousands of victims of woke progressivism throughout our country.
A player from a different team has come out to support Ivey. Kon Kneuppel, who's having a record chasing rookie season despite being picked later in the draft, said freedom of speech, simple as that. These nba players want an opinion on anything, but the league knows it's best to curtail the controversy for revenue purposes (their priority).

How many black owners in the NBA. a league dominated by great black players?
Cancel culture is truly out of control. He shouldn't be cut for stating his religious beliefs. Whatever happened to free speech?
LRC Friendly reminder. Please provide a link. Here is one explaining why Ivey, the 5th pick in the 2022 draft and the son of the Notre Dame women's basketball coach, was waived:
This gives a lot more context. First, he has been injured. Second, a report cited says he made teammates feel uncomfortable. Based on what he said about others not knowing Jesus Christ, that seems incredibly plausible. If that were the case, then conduct detrimental to the team seems to be applicable.
He was waived, but it appears he is still getting his salary.

What about people Trump fires for dissent? Do you think someone with a job in Big Oil will get far showing up with a Biden/Harris bumper sticker? People get fired for having different views from their employers all the time and it’s not the one sided affair you pretend it to be, let’s be real.

The first two things you mentioned are not matters of religious conviction, at least not for the overwhelming majority of people. be protected in the same way by a private company. Criticizing Catholicism is, and even as a Protestant I would disagree with criticizing them but would allow it as a religious belief.
You’re assuming that criticizing someone’s sexual orientation - which clearly can change over time and is based around freely chosen activity - and immutable characteristics such as sex and race, are the same. They are not, for the reasons I just suggested. I feel much freer to criticize someone for what they choose to do, but would not want to criticize someone for what they cannot adjust or change.

Religion was used by White people to justify enslavement of Black people.
Religion is still used today to justify oppression of women.
Religion should not be an excuse for bigotry.
Being gay isn't a choice. You can't control who you're attracted to. Did you choose your attractions?
What about workplace environment? Disparaging the identities of coworkers creates a hostile work environment. The coach of the Bulls is Catholic. You really think it's fine for an employee to publicly say his boss's religion is a false religion?
Criticizing the LGBT community is what’s grabbing headlines but I think Da Pope called the hit in. Not smart to call Catholicism a fake religion in the backyard of the Pope. Chicago also has an extremely high population of Catholics.
Half of this is a joke (pope calling in the hit) half of it is not. Ivey’s production has gone downhill since his injury and trade. Plus a nice side of asking reporters if they’ve had premarital sex isn’t a great look for the organization.
Sad beliefs aside, the guy is clearly (And I mean CLEARLY!) mentally ill. There's not much more to say other than that. But, of course, right-wingers need to feel victimized and pretend that all of the Billionaire NBA owners are WOKE and that there is a war on Christmas or whatever.
