He was out and about winning the New Zealand Secondary Schools triathlon champs.
Due to the poor weather the NZ Schools Triathlon of 750m Swim / 20km Bike/ 5km Run was changed to an Aquathon of 750m Swim and 3.75Km Run. Sam was out of the water less than a minute behind the leaders, then ran them down to win easily. Sam is reported to have been disappointed that the bike leg was cancelled as he has during the last few weeks been competing in local road cycling events and making the podium in the top open age 'A Grade'. He is a very competent swimmer, cyclist, and triathlete.
Smart move in IMHO, who really gives a shıt about indoor champs. He has been training well at home, i.e. no travel, crook food, etc involved, tested out his fitness in what was pretty much a time trial with a 3:30 and, as stated by him, later heads off to Europe and the US. The important championships will come later.
Pencilled races:
Stockholm Diamond League (Bauhaus-Galan), Sweden: June 7, 2026.
Oslo Diamond League (Bislett Games), Norway: June 10, 2026.
Prefontaine Classic USA: July 4, 2026.
That's nice, I guess no medals for Cam Myers then, let alone gold ones.
Err, do you realise the next major championships are:
2027 World Athletics Championships Beijing, China, September 11–19, 2027
2028 Summer Olympics: Los Angeles, USA, July 14–30, 2028
He's 20yo in June, you can work out how many major championships he'll be up for if he stays fit, healthy and motivated for the next 10/15 years.
Weird saying nobody gives a sh*t about indoor champs when the three medalists from Paris ran the 3km and the reigning world champ ran the 1500m. And you can be sure Jakob would have ran if he wasn't injured. Sounds like a lot of people give a sh*t.
Nothing weird about it, no one remembers who ran/won what at the world indoors, even the die hards here.
He didn't run it to be remembered by, it was a glorified time trial to see how the training was going leading up to heading OS for DL meets.
Also, my memory is good, but I couldn't tell who won what in the indoors prior to this one, but the Olympic and World Champs is a different matter. Be the same for most with an interest in T&F.

Plus the Commonwealth Games in July 2026, where he’d hopefully make the podium quite easily.
I did say "major", but funnily enough the 1500 is one of the strongest events, so not too sure about the "quite easily" bit.
Also, strong possibility this could be the last Comm Games, due to lack of interest of host cities and many athletes staying away as they're seen as unimportant.

Quite easily? 3 of the top 4 from Tokyo 2025 plus Josh Kerr vying for that podium. They all should be there. Recall that Jake Wightman went from World Champ to bronze in 2022. This field is even deeper potentially with others like Ruthe, Mills, Tanner and more.

You missed out nzs top proven contender... geordie beamish. Said on coffee club he wants to double.
That didn't stop Ruthe running last year at MP and being virtually last. Why go over to the US and then not do the only gold meet that's just a few hours away?
He is just a kid but logistically it would have been quite easy to fly to Melbourne, race and be back for school.

There wasn’t a Commonwealth Games last year? Raced from mid-November on, seems like he could use some time to wind down. This year he will be racing a lot more between June and August than last, so I don’t see why battling Adam Spencer for runner-up honors in a race, where 3 guys fell by the way, would be of some major importance.

of course no logic in racing 2 of the top guys that will be contenders at the comm games and getting experience at your back door as it makes so much more sense racing time trials in perfect indoor conditions and taking 4 weeks off school .
I spoke with Sam and he said FFS those clowns on HC wouldn't have a clue about what is or isn't occurring in my life from month to month or week to week let alone from day to day.
