You will still need to test to define male. Its gets real hard with some DSD athletes who are in reality the ones that get left behind. But I am in no way saying they should have been in female races. there are people that it is super difficult to call them male vs female and how we want to define that. T levels, genetic testing....
It's not hard. You test for a functional SRY gene, it's a pretty simple test these days.
If you've got one, you can't compete with the women.
(Unless as mentioned earlier, you have a diagnosis of CAIS, and then you can)
This guy is 46XX SRY negative. And he was assigned female at birth. (He did not "transition" in case any one wonders.) Could he have competed with women?
World Athletics already had this in place for last year’s World Championships, so all the women who competed there are already eligible for the women’s events at the Olympics.

I’m sure this will go over completely fine. Can somebody tell me why they are doing this? What transgender athlete has won a gold medal at any sport in the last 20 years? Why are we not doing genetic testing for men too to make sure nobody has genetic advantages in the male category? If Usain Bolt was born with a genetic mutation that makes his ceiling higher than other men, all his records should be removed because that’s an unfair advantage.
A wording change would be useful here. Call what is now the "men's division" the "open division". It is open to anyone. However the women's division is protected and only women (as defined by biology) are allowed. Thus you do not screen for the open division.
Should be the open and XX division. Makes it much more clear.

No one has been murdered on my street since I moved in 20 years ago. Why do we bother keeping the law against murder?

eagleeye: Trans athletes have been eligible for 20 years and none of them won a medal. Why do we need to change the rule now?
Crascrendon: murder has been illegal for 20 years and none has been murdered. Why do we need to keep the same law??
This makes no sense. The former is asking why we need to change the existing rule, while the latter is asking why need to keep the same rule.
The proper analogy should be:
"Murder has been legal for 20 years and no one committed murder. Why do we need to change the law?"
"The IOC states that SRY gene is a reliable test for determining biological sex and therefore who can complete in women’s events. However, this policy is based on the overly simplistic idea that the presence of the SRY gene alone is equivalent to being male."
(Professor Andrew Sinclair who discovered the human SRY gene.)

Human sex is more complex than anyone on this board can possibly explain.
Mental illness is far more complex than you can comprehend, just look for example at the ability of some men to be so self deceptive that they can convince themselves they are women.

So how many guys are like him? It's easy to point to rare exceptions to say it's "complicated". It isn't. Aberrations can occur anywhere but they don't disprove the general rule, which doesn't have to be absolute to apply to most individuals.

Hobby is in the cult of trans ideology. It's like all cults. Believers blindly follow tenets even in the face of overwhelming evidence of its false and destructive practices, and react by demeaning and attacking (often violently) those who disagree. The middle-aged men who began this cult somehow were able to take their fetish mainstream by making it about kids. They were able to convince enough idiots that there were thousands of kids who would commit suicide if they weren't mutilated and filled with damaging cross-sex hormones. These idiots have destroyed young lives and groomed kids for pedophiles.
