the Penn girl in front had a 16:17 best coming in and was looking strong running 16:00 pace. If she had a kick at all she could have had a major PR. Id be devastated
Athletes are back on the track, according to flashresults. Radar of the triangle area indicates more thunderstorms moving in soon. Lets's hope Cherop/Engelhardt/Henes/Tuohy aren't on 15-flat pace and getting pulled off with 800 to go.

That group was on track to get their regional Qs done and will now have to find another place to get them. I’d be frustrated
Good work from Oemomoi, just 12 sec shy of her pb. Almost always in the mix up front through 4 yrs and 12 seasons of NCAA comp. Nice to see her top of the podium for a change.
They have section 8 of the women's 5000 scheduled for 9:00am tomorrow. I guess they are going to rerun it. I don't know why they made it so early; the next event on the track does not start until 11:15. They could easily have run it at 10:30.
Both Notre Dame women were running smoothly and going under 16. 4 minutes of racing left and the risk was basically non existent. Silly and officious. Not exactly like lightening was hitting the goal posts

Probably so more of the runners can make it before the teams all have to head home on their flights or bus rides.

It does suck for the athletes but in this litigious world that we live in there is liability to consider.
Almost all athletic facilities/universities have some sort of a “lightning strike indicator.” It’s something like what is below and they will detect lightning before a human will.
The TG 360 delivers unmatched lightning prediction with faster data, new detection tech, and proven algorithms???Thor Guard???s most advanced system yet.
agree, they cancel all kinds of things when lightning is likely within 5 miles or so I think. The real question is whether they should have started that heat.

She ran a PB 16:08.90 this morning after racing 2/3 of the race last night. Huyler from ND runner won in 16:05.31. Only 7 total finishers.

Roughly 15:55 to 16:00 is what they need for regionals.
This was a great effort by all the women to come back and run again in cold and windy conditions. Stopping the previous night's heat was silly and deprived the top three or so from a clear regional qualifier. They were ahead of this morning's pace and conditions were far better, with much less wind. Gutsy for all of them to do it all over again and run really well.

pretty sure its NCAA policy to have a 30 minute delay if there is lightning within a certain radius of the event, wasn't their call. May be in their insurance/liability coverage for the event too.

A lightning policy is going to be required for nearly any public event in order to hold the public event. So it isn't silly....it is wise.
Probably the only country in the world that would have stopped the event with 4 laps to go with no obvious data on the lightening. Chances of anyone getting struck in 4 laps was next to zero. There were people in the bleachers, sitting on aluminum and no one was struck. The heats started thereafter so there was obviously not much of a risk other than over zealous race officials.

Harvard did not run a single woman in any event. Why?
