while your interpretation is plausible. they may have been called numb chucks because they can turn chuck numb.
a basic argument about their toy nature could be- say you are required to fight bruce lee for 3 minutes. and you can choose- will he be allowed to use nunchucks or not. do you choose to fight him while he uses nunchucks? and do you admit you will not fight him unless you get a gun, a spear, or a fast way to escape his fury. or 7 years of lessons from benny the jet and bas rutten and chuck liddel...
