I wish they put more info in the results. I still have a few D3 connects and if the general word is true it’s really unfortunate for all involved. This is secondhand - I wasn’t able to make it to Alabama. Apparently Amherst jumper had illegal shoes on but passed spike check? Frankland College had first jumper out of the finals and apparently their coach noticed the Amherst spikes weren’t legal so they protested. Spikes got looked at and Amherst athlete DQ’d. Apparently Frankland jumper jumped in the final and got 5th or 6th but the Amherst coach protested the protest(?) and that got Frankland removed from final and Amherst athlete remained DQ’d.
I know it’s D3 but spikes have been a hot button for 5-6 years now. How does NCAA put on a National Championship and miss illegal spikes? Or change their mind after somehow does multiple jumps? The WA shoe list is pretty clear as well as the various stack height rules. Shame on officials for creating the mess
If anyone has real info I’d be interested to hear. Before anyone says who cares - I’m sure the 2 athletes care a great deal. I myself was involved in college track for over 10 years and since I retired I can’t help but pore over results and talk to old colleagues. It’s a tough racket but even tougher to leave!
