Did you just hack my brain and dump my spank bank from back in the day?
Her frizzy hairstyle in the first few seasons detracted from her looks imo. She was hotter in the later seasons once her hair became more normal. All her scenes were simulated…except with George.
You nailed it. On 1.1.90, any/all human beings ceased being attractive and then on 1.1.2000, as if by magic, people looked good again. Other than the internet, texting, google, the camera phone, Sony PS, and Nirvana (all ugly stuff that we never consume anymore), it was an ugly decade. Brilliant analysis.
Among the main cast (Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer) and the regular supporting cast (Newman, Jerry/George's parents, Uncle Leo, Peterman etc) only Elaine is traditionally attractive, and her hair styles and outfits tend to be dated and not very flattering. That said, all four main characters date a lot of attractive people. The casting decisions were based on acting skills and comedic talent rather than looks such as in a drama or even a lower quality sitcom like friends where formulaic humor and romantic arcs keep the audience engaged.
Old saying in the business for a hundred years: You get out what you put into it". "IT" is what you can imagine. Applies to boys, girls, men, women, always does,
I started watching the old sitcom "Seinfeld" recently. Good show and a lot of the comedy holds up even for my generation. But I can't help but notice that everyone on the show looks 10 years older than the age they're supposed to be and absolutely no one is attractive. Even when a girl Jerry or George is dating is supposed to be hot, they're really just mid.
Were people in the 90s just not very attractive, or is this just a function of older film production technology?
Yeah, where are the Tatoos, Nose Rings and Blue Hair. These people are ugly.
Three decades ago, actors were hired for their ability to act. Most really good thespians are kind of mid looking.
If she were around in the late 80s and early 90s, Sydney Sweeney would not get roles in Hollywood productions. She would be doing, shall we say, low budget film work in the San Fernando Valley or be back home working as a receptionist for Spokane's top-rated orthodontist.

Did you start from season 1? Wait till later on. Jerry dates absolute smokeshows. Terri Hatcher, Tawny Kittaen. It’s actually ridiculous the tail he pulls on that show.
