I love my 50’ double driveway!

My drive is .4 mile long and climbs 200' curving through a forest. Near Ithaca. One time I asked a plow guy I knew what he'd charge to do it, and he said he wouldn't even bid on it, and nobody else would, either, because it would take too long and cut into the time he'd have for other clients.

I use a John Deere 3039R with a 5' wide snowblower, and sometimes a blade. Takes me 40 minutes to an hour to get the job done, depending on whether I do a couple of neighbor drives as well.

You don't need an expensive plow like this. I have a 400 foot driveway. I clear it with a 24 inch Toro snowthrower that cost $1300.

Per Google, a typical driveway is 10 feet wide, so you have a driveway of 800*10=8,000 square feet. Also per Google, the typical cost of plowing per square foot ranges widely, but a normal professional service charges ~$0.30 per square foot. So, the expected cost would be 8,000*0.30=$2,400.

At $1,000, it sounds like you got a deal!

Even if we take the $0.10 per square foot low end estimate, that would still be $800.

This is basic stuff that took me 20 seconds to look up.

Lesson learned, I hope: You have to get a quote beforehand. The final price here is well within professional norms, so you have no basis to complain.

How deep was the snow? If it was 3 feet $1000 was a bargain, but if it was dusting you're just lazy. Shovel it yourself - it's good cross-training.
