The only one who sucks is the Ohio man raging in his couch at some woman who is doing GREAT for herself.
Ohio is strong with you.
Left that land of boredom and sadness forty years ago. Best decision of my life! I get back there about every fifth year or so. Same cities and towns in the same permanent recessions that started in the 80s. If you know places like Canton, Massillon, Dayton, Youngstown, and Findlay, then you know what I am talking about.
Being the best in the world in anything means a lot in China. 2004 hurdle gold medalist/world record holder and Nike athlete Liu Xiang has parlayed his success into a $900+ million dollar net worth, almost all from 25 years of brand endorsements. Everyone in China knows Gu is the best freestyle skier in the world. How many Americans can name even one freestyle skier past or present? Like Mondo, she went where the money was. (It also didn't hurt that her big Olympic debut and 2 golds/1silver were won in Beijing). What many find annoying about her in America is not the case in China, where being a triple medalist and also a 1580 SAT scorer is held in awe.
Only one 'active' USA man holds a world record in a standard instadia event- Crouser in the shot put. I believe retired Americans still hold the LJ and 110H records.
who goes skiing, rich people that's who. And they need a crapload of expensive equipment
1 reason I always hated how these Colorado snowboard culture types appropriated surfer lingo/culture. I don't surf but at least surfers aren't rich elitists
Unfortunately you are very wrong about this.
Like skiing and snowboarding, some blue collar types and people making it work. But surfing has a notorious crowd of trust fund kids (grown men)
Living in a beach property being able to surf all day mid-week usually means some (generational) wealth. Check out the Lunada Bay Boys.
all the 60s surfer movies were about surf bums with no money, mooching off the girls and everyone else, partying at night
I'm sure you can surf more if you rich. But if you are poor, you pretty much can't go skiing. You have to get to the venue, pay for access, probably pay for lodging too. To surf you just need a surfboard, there are free spots. How much is a surfboard?
Top athletes earn more in endorsements than their contracts. LeBron signed a $1bn contract w Nike.
Gu is the best in her sport. NIL athletes, some that won’t even go pro like Livvy Dunne, make $5+ mil a year or whatever, why wouldn’t Gu get $23m after reaching the top of her sport?
No wonder he's protected and will never have a (publicly revealed) positive drug test.
