How does someone saying when their youngster started training have anything to do with saying "they aren't cheating"? You don't appear to realize they are in no way equivalent statements. You wouldn't believe someone if they told you the time.
actually sam ruthe is sort of like a younger version of neils laros,or maybe hobbs kessler. Endurance and amazing speed. Neils is often injured,so slimming down might not be a good idea.

He was already riding in 100km+ cycling road races when he was 14. And being relatively competitive.
A kid doesn't just roll out of bed one day and do that.
If he was capable of training like an adult in cycling before the age of 14 then he was capable of training like an adult runner. He wasn't, which is why he wasn't introduced to the sport till that age. He still doesn't train like an adult, as he reportedly runs 60kpw.
Jim Ryun broke four minutes in the mile after a year and a half of (admittedly terrible) training. What’s your point? For all we know Ruthe’s training might have served Ingebrigsten better and/or vice versa. It’s a guessing game with some luck involved. Jakob has two Olympic Gold medals a couple of WC golds and a couple of silvers. He’s done alright. One can’t be sure Ruthe will do as well (I hope he does). It’s wait and see.

You seriously think that after more than a century of the sport that training today is "trial and error"? That will be news to those who argue it is a science.

You find the exception that proves the rule; swimmers don't become runners. If it were otherwise we would see it on a regular basis. We don't. Probably as many chess players or kite flyers become runners.
Are you going to argue that starting as a triathlete helps becoming a distance runner? If it were so we would surely see it incorporated in distance training.
Being a talented athlete generally shows early in life through an engagement in sports but the sport concerned doesn't particularly matter until an athlete at least enters their teens. (That said, it can help to participate in ball sports earlier, to train hand-eye coordination.)

I don't know if this has been pointed out, but this performance broke Isaac Songok's U18 world record in the mile, 3:54.56 from 2001
(Songok finished 9th in the 1500m in Paris 2003, 12th in Athens 2004, and 10th in the 5000m in Helsinki in 2005. Won silver and bronze in the short race in the world xc championships in 2005 and 2006. Ended up with PBs of 3:30.99, 7:28.72 and 12:48.66)
