That’s so funny you say that ha ha. My mid-40s I had renaissance and was able to train like a teenager. Ran sub-16 for 5K at age 45 and some good cross country races. But that was my last hurrah. I haven’t stopped running in the 10 years since, but it’s been all downhill. The body just stopped complying in my late 40s and my 50s has been very hard going.
Wild and carefree party life is over for many of us at 40. But if you have been taking care of your friendships and your health and education, some of the most interesting and rewarding years are just beginning.
No, life is not necessarily over at 40, that is unless you are flipping people the bird at age 20 because YOU THINK they are driving too slow on the highway. Didja eva thing it is YOU thath might be drive TOO FAST! That's why you almost rear-ended the guy!
No one has really mentioned family, but I just had my first two kids at 42. Maybe this will make me age more rapidly due to lack of sleep, or maybe it'll be like a new beginning that will have me feeling relatively young deep into my 40s. Too early to say.
Agree mentality makes a big difference. Obviously you need to be realistic about the physical slow-down and just roll with it. I'm lucky in that I never cared too much about getting slower -- when I decide to race, I'm realistic about my base fitness level and set expectations accordingly.
Wife and I 42 and 44 when we had twins. Not an issue, they just entered high school. Fun working out and running with them. I feel like middle age is just starting and I'm sure through age 90 life will be great. Looking forward to grandkids.
True story- My friend just had his 7th 3 weeks ago. 3 months past his 56th birthday and his wife is 42. All natural birth. They have 7 kids now from age 0 to almost 16. I told him he needs one more, eight is enough!
