Another recent D3 alum, Mike McCann from Marywood ran 2:14:58 out there too. From the D3 Glory Days list, 17 D3 alum qualified for the trials this weekend. 5 of them were under 2:15.

Saw a lot of D3 guys on the line this past weekend. Saw a lot of younger guys from other divisions getting after it too. The marathon scene is much different than it was when I finished college in 2016. It used to be that you'd see a fast college guy chase track or short road dreams for a couple months, maybe a year or two and then be out of the sport completely. Now I'm seeing people immediately say they're going for the standard out of college, and doing it. There's much more support for it regionally and people and seem to be coming together. Reminds me a bit of how information got around with dyestat in the late 2000's.

No and no.
The idea of an NCAA xc marathon champs is great, but you have the totally wrong group I want in it.
Besides getting discounted education, what is the point of carrying 17 athletes in the XC roster if most of them never travel or only get to go to local small schools invites? A marathon, half marathon, or road championships of some sort gives those back of the roster athletes a purpose. Otherwise, everyone is going to adopt SEC numbers and / or stock up on older foreign athletes to remain competitive.
If I am cost conscious AD or assistant AD, I can cut 6-7 guys because they serve no purpose. I can use that money elsewhere or make my Title IX balance easier.

Because some of those athletes are underclassmen who will be in your top 7 next year. Not every recruit is a Jane Hedregen or Simeon Birnbaum. Those are just the super-frosh who get the headlines.

Dude's track pbs are 14:15/30:10. How is that possible? Only explanation I can think of is the genetic superiority of Africans at 26.2.
Guys born in America aren't made for 26.2

Can I ask if this another eastern African?

D3 or not, it seems to become very common that eastern African runners are filling out American college rosters on all levels. It is already very hard to get American boys and girls to consider XC and distance events in track.

Yeah, definitely taking a roster spot from an ‘American boy’ at Augsburg University, the national cross country powerhouse team regularly turning away prospective ‘American’ kids.

Also, Mo is a US Citizen as of ~2 years ago, so while working full-time, going to school, and running, he also learned English and passed his Citizenship test. One thing he didn’t do is steal a roster spot from anyone. Any kids interested in running can feel free to contact the Augsburg staff, I’m sure they’d be interested.
