It is amazing to me how stupid so many of you are. Jane is one of the best white young female runners out there. Her height is not a problem. Jane’s biggest issue now in terms of being one of the best is that she is white. It won’t stop her from being one of the best in the US, but she may have a more difficult time being competitive with the nonwhite female runners who dominate in world class competition, for whatever reasons.
Given the wide variety of reporting (father says 5'9", BYU 5'11", others 6' or more, etc...), her actual height ought to be established before the rest of the convo begins. It's pretty clear she's taller than many/most of her competitors, but as many of them are in the 5-5'6" it's hard to get perspective. However, last years NXN finals popped up in YT when I was searching for this year's NCAA regionals, and of particular interest is the ceremony in which the MAN himself (Cole Hocker) was present. And while she towers over the rest of the podium, she appears roughly the same and/or slightly shorter than him, camera angles/super shoes or whatever notwithstanding. Given he's listed as 5'10" - it basically confirms her father, who should have been believed to begin with. Jump to 32:17 in this clip:
Yeah, the fact that I don't see fast 6'4" women tells me everything i need to know about how fast Jane will be. In fact she will never break 15 in high school, never break 19 in 6k cross and never even be a regional champ.
How does that address the claim that height can never be a limitation for a distance runner?
If height isn't a factor in running then I guess weight isn't either. Nothing physical or anatomical is a limiting factor.
Because the thread was about Jane's height specifically, not people 5-7 inches taller than her. She's only proven to be the best high school runner of all time at her height and is showing signs she might do the same in college at her height.
I don't expect volleyball girls to keep up with her because I don't expect any collegiate woman to keep up with her regardless of height
A ridiculous thread. Jane Hed is a KILLER. Its not even arguable.
The idea that her height is a problem is laughable. All she does is destroy other runners. If her height was holding her back, she would be an ordinary runner, not an all-time great.
Surprise no one mentioned this, it would be like if a guy was 6'6" and trying to be an elite distance runner
Is it too late for her to switch to volleyball or basketball?
Don't think she'll be a Olympic or World 5k/10k medalist, but no caucasian American would be right now. I do think she'll beat the American records and finish top 5-8 though, by the '27 Worlds and '28 Games.
She's five feet 11 and I agree that that's really pushing it with regard to potential to be outstanding in distance running on a world class level but I don't think it will stop her from reaching a good national level such as 14:50/30:40.... She'll never sniff 14:00/29:00 which is gold standard now....Chebet and co
No white woman has ever come close to 14:00 or 29:00, and they orobabjy won’t for at least a decade or more.
Battocletti said she was in 14:00/29:00 shape. Could see it next year.

Battocletti: I don't think there's any way that she will come close to 14:00/29:00, and just because she says she will do it does not mean that she will do it.
It looks like some kind of hyperbole and I don't mean this as disrespect because she's a great runner in her own right but 14:00 and 29:00 are so far from what she can do - let's be honest.

Interestingly, Battocletti is half Moroccan through her mother. Her Dad is Italian. So those Moroccan genes might be advantageous.

"Battocletti was born on 12 April 2000 in Cles to an Italian father (Giuliano Battocletti) and Moroccan-born mother.[2] As of 2022, she lives in Trentino region of northern Italy, and was a student of architecture engineering at the University of Trento. She is coached by her father Giuliano, who was, in the past, an important Italian long-distance runner.[3]"

Why not? She was a meter behind Kipyegon in the 5000, stayed near Chebet in the 10, and destroyed Gudaf and Ngetich, who both ran 14:00, in each race. She was well clear of Hulihan, who said she's in 14:20 shape. Chebet and Kipyegon are likely capable of 13:50 and 13:55,respectively -- is it that crazy to think someone who competed closely with them at worlds can run 14:00-14:05? I don't think so If i had to speculate, 14:00 is outof her reach, but I don't think 14:05-14:10 is. However, I wouldn't be totally shocked if she approached 14 flat, for the aforementioned reasons

The exception that proves the rule. World class 6'5" sprinters appear incredibly rare. So far there isn't a comparable exception - 5'11" - amongst world record breaking women distance runners.
Do you like anyone? Do you even like this sport in theory? Why are you here?

6’5 men and 5’11 women are overall VERY rare in the general population, like one in several hundred. I’m 6’3 and can easily go a day walking around at grocery stores or whatever and not see anyone taller than me. Do you expect there to be multiple of each among a handful of elites?

Battocletti will be 26 in April. So she is at a stage where great improvement is much less likely than in earlier stages. She will never break 14:15 or 29:30. It simply won’t happen.
