Feeling old now that the kids of the runners I used to watch are competing at the high school level. In Colorado there's all these ones and meanwhile in Oregon there's a Lincoln (Daniel's Daughter), Blankenship (son of Ben) and a Dimoff (Son of Carrie) all running well. Only a few years ago Oregon had Mark Nenow's son too. I'm sure there's a handful in other states as well.
hahaha, Bjorn Blankenship is not Ben’s kid. Ben is only 36 and wasn’t a teen dad.
Ben has been 36 for like 10 years now. He is the white man Kipchoge.
The course is precisely 3.10 miles. It has 203 feet of elevation gain. It is at an elevation of 6100 ft above sea level. It has a variety of hard and soft dirt and gravel surfaces and uses dirt parking lot, gravel road, bike/hike/running path, and includes a creek crossing, a significant hill at mile 1, another steep hill at mile 3, and finishes following that hill by turning into a rodeo arena with soft dirt to the finish line.
It is definitely not short and is not at all like running on a golf course. It may not be the toughest State Championship course in the country but it's has to be among the toughest. (Prior to 2015, it was without a doubt the toughest course in the country when that old course route had over 430 feet of climbing!)
Goucher’s posture is exactly like Adam’s. He runs very strong but his shoulders don’t look natural like Adam did back in the day. I wouldn’t say it a mechanical issue at all though but it is surprising to me that I’ve never seen any other runner run like this.
Goucher Jr is not on the same level as RItz Jr. Not even close. Ritz Jr has dominated that 1-1 since the early Boulder Mountain Warrior days. Neither of them can touch Rocco's speed though.
Did Dathan get to see his kids run or was he in nyc?
I heard he had flown into NY with OAC, flew back to CO Friday night to watch the Cross Country races Saturday, then flown back to NY Saturday afternoon.
Tough to make that schedule work but kudos for seemingly juggling it all!
the rain made the course, and especially the slippery water crossings that are pretty steep and muddy gulches, a menace. The kids running in the super shoes were slipping all over.
If racing in non-spikes (let alone super shoes) is even an option, it's not real cross-country.
Hold up. A freshman running 1519 on a XC course at 5000 ft elevation? That’s pretty incredible. Even if his dad ran 1429 as a junior at sea level.
Not just elevation but a rough course as well with tough hills and water crossings. This isn't like other states that run on golf courses. This isn't a PR type course.
The first year the race was run at Bear Creek everyone complained because the times were slow due to a pretty nasty ascent that was later removed to make the course faster.
Being the old guy I am I thought they were being soft.
I was there rooting on friends kid from Conifer. Kind of a crazy dusty course that finishes on an uphill into an old horse or rodeo stadium. Fun to watch; parents were running through bramble and crossing gulches to see their kids. Weather was cool enough for fast times.

Flying around so he can still claim credit for Obiri's performance?
It just goes to show just how non-competitive distance running is. You see it alot in cycling also where the son of every former pro also makes it as a pro. How many former pro basketball player's sons make it to the nba? I could think of one. How bout in soccer?
