... and they all have to pass an written and oral English exam.
The Brojos will not be on that list, that's for sure.
Weldon ran a 5th year at Texas. Plus we had July birthdays (and we're old for our age). And I think he's considering redshirting his daughter for kindergarten.
We clearly would not pass these new stringent new rules.
How the heck were you "old for your age"? If you have a July birthday you would start school at 6, that would make you normally young for your age. Most kids would be 6 December through September, with October being either/or months.
I don't have a problem with international athletes running in the NCAA, just the methods some use to get them, the lack of doping control in some of the countries, and when there are little to no educational standards for them to meet.
No problem with transfers and actually I think transferring should be supported more.
I can't think of any reason overage athletes should be allowed to compete with 18-year-olds.
I don't have a problem with it. What makes your opinion so special? You were never at the level where it mattered. I was.

He’d turn 19 before starting freshman year of college, so old for his grade. Most kids turn 19 from September to July of their freshman year. August/September are bubble months. Some states like NY in the past pushed kids up a grade like my old man who turned 18 a few weeks before starting college.
This is the folly of relying on Artificial Ignoramus. Good luck with that. Milesplit didn't exist back then. Or course those results are wrong. "Too funny" is a perfect username for you.

What an odd post considering we are on a mostly anonymous message board that's all about opinions.

It depends on what is meant by school. When I was in those grades, most kids started kindergarten at 5 and 1st grade at 6.

Isn't that what I just said? Most kids were older than me when I started First grade. OK to use your finders if you have to.
Since the Brojos went to school in Texas, and Texas is known for holding back children for the purpose of sports, especially football, that probably explains the difference.

So what makes your opinion count more than those who actually have skin in the game? Simple question,
Skin in what game? I've run in college, coached high school and collegiate athletes, still run competitively, work/have worked in sports media and sports marketing. And this has all been within the past 20 years.
I respect your opinion about the subject, but if you're going to question my credentials and say my opinion doesn't matter, please share how you have contributed or at the very least, participated, in the sport since 1985. Arguing for the sake of arguing on LetsRun doesn't count.
Princeton men fit this description last year, possibly top to bottom, not just top 5 or 7. This year Jacob Nenow who transferred after one XC season at Tennessee is going to score for them
Some others that people have mentioned definitely have fifth years like Topper at Stanford

You're the one who's arguing for the sake of arguing. I'm giving a dose of reality that you can't handle. Having foreigners come to America for an opportunity of an education is 100% positive. It doesn't affect you are anyone you coach at all. Not one bit. Never has, never will. There's more to life than your precious college running experience you know. They get to have an education too, you know? Don't drown in the bin of jealousy-flavored koolaid. It doesn't taste good.

Respectfully, no you don't. You finished 269th place at club XC nationals (7:26 mile pace), and recently ran a 24 minute 5k.
Ah yes, the anonymous poster cherry-picking times with no context whatsoever. You left out the part about doing both of those races (among others) 2 years or less after having twins. The 24 minute 5K was off little training and pushing my 2-year-old twins in a double stroller.

What you said was that most kids start school at age 6. This is true if you mean first grade. This is false if you mean kindergarten. I am not sure why you are struggling with this.

Oh my god. of course I mean first grade. You're the one who's struggling.

You are not aware that kindergarten is considered school?

The reason I pushed back on you Malmo is you are incorrect here. Thoughtsleader is correct. And before you start arguing, Thoughtsleader is correct when he says most kids turn 19 between September and July of their freshman year in college. You said “no they don’t.” That is where you are wrong.
