Yeah I don’t think people are lying by looking at what times she has run over the last few years - it’s just interest. So this year she ran 2.01.24 on a short 800m track in Lyon. Then down to 1.58.53 in August. At no point have I suggested anything suspicious. Just pointing out how far away she has been from showing a 1.54 potential. She has been inconsistent - that’s not lying.
She’s not been on my radar so I went to do a little digging. This is compared to someone like Keely who is very consistent and has been for years.

Agreed. And yes sorry we don’t have the details of what happened in every single race. That’s not lying. And times do matter. As do PBs when we are looking at progression. She has knocked an amazing amount off her PB just this year.
But what does that say about elite athletics? I can't think of another sport where someone could take time out from age 22 to 30 and then come back to be one of the best in the world. Is elite athletics really that easy? I remember Martina Hingis taking years out from tennis after being the very best in the world and when she came back she was solid but nowhere near making Grand Slam finals. And she was legitimately one of the most talented teenagers the sport had ever seen. Or do we ask just how good GHB could have been in those intervening years if she'd stuck with Trevor Painter instead of going to the US?
But isnt that just it? Clearly athletics has a sort of upper limit of human performance esp in shorter races. Everyone is sort of stuck on mostly the same times for the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 etc...Nobody suddenly runs 3:20 for the 15? Or 1:38 for 800. We are at a relative limit. These races are being decided by tenths and thousandths. So if you have the goods, you can take a break...why not? You just need to get back to the same place, it's not like the train leaves without you? They didn't lower the 800m record or 400m record the whole time she was gone. Not saying its easy. But nobody is getting better while she is gone.
But that's only true of you peg the standard at the WR. While Odira was out of the sport, it was rare to even see 1:55-low. Gradually, between 2021 and 2024, Athing Mu and Keely Hodgkinson managed to get into the 1:54 range. She left the sport in a 1:55-56 world, and she wasn't even part of that. She returned to the sport in a 1:54 world and is almost immediately the World Champion. The train did leave without her, and she somehow caught it up

Kipyegon is a cheat and a liar just like Grant Fisher and Cole Hocker. Beatrice Chebet and Sebastian Sawe is a better role model.
The biggest shock for me was Nader’s 1500m win. That was so wrong.

Kipyegon is a well known cheaterbug in the underbelly of the sport. You don’t dominate a 1500m for 10 years in the modern era was the maximum permissible dominance period was 8 years as shown by El G. Also you don’t break 1500m and mile wr 4 times in succession and after a long injury period. It’s like Jakob suddenly running 3:25 tomorrow after all his injury woes.
There is only 1 peak 1 wr and it’s usually around early 20s. If there are 2 wrs from a single peak from David Rudisha is also possible but within 2 years must be done. Kipyegon is doing is 10 years apart and never let up. Rudisha did it early in his career and he was gone. Kipyegon is a cheaterbug.
To the question of the biggest shock I think it was the M1500. Even as it was happening I was thinking the whole way that Laros/Reynold/Tim would win. The Kerr injury was a shock to begin with and the Hocker DQ. Wightman/Nader taking it to everyone was stunning.
The w800 to me was somewhat more predictable. Odira looked amazing in her heats. She’s looked fantastic in her races this year running 1:56 with basically no drafting on the second lap in Silesia. Then the final goes crazy fast and Keely is stuck playing Moraa’s games. As soon as she didn’t get by 300 in I was pretty sure she was vulnerable to GHB and Odira. I looked for Sarah Moraa but she was too far back. Odira was an overall shock but not in that moment. She always closes well and she has a better trip than I’ve usually seen.
Otherwise Jimmy Gressier showed himself so well at DL Final, Hocker we’re familiar with his kick. Beamish I’d say a real shock except like Odira you saw it in the prelim. Beating El B was next level though. Sprints the Kebinatshipi win was a mild shock but like SMLs crazy time, the Semis dulled the shock factor.
