We’re talking about 0.05s. Even just having to waste mental energy to figure out if you can maintain your stride pattern and safely clear the hurdle or any hesitation coming from it could cost you that much.

I agree with this. If you said before the race to Rai Benjamin that one of his hurdles will be randomly placed at an angle by around 10cm he'd go nuts and refuse to race. Have you seen how obsessed hurdlers are about their stride pattern and technique? Especially on the men's side where the barriers are significant.

22.6 All races shall be run in lanes and each athlete shall go over each hurdle and keep to their own lane throughout. Failure to do so will result in a disqualification, unless Rule 17.4 of the Technical Rules applies. In addition, an athlete shall be disqualified, if: 22.6.3 they directly or indirectly knock down or displace a hurdle in their or in another lane in such a manner that there is effect or obstruction upon any other athlete(s) in the race, and/or another Rule is also infringed.
Benjamin hit hurdle 10, and the hurdle hit the hurdle in Nathaniel's lane, displacing it.
USATF appealed very quickly and it was accepted very quickly. Benjamin is the champion.

In Rai's interview he mentioned that Dos Santos was the one who told him he "might be a DQd" Would be a pretty douche move in my humble opinion if he was the one lodging the complaint and playing coy about it. I'll hold judgment on that yet, but if so it would diminish my level respect of him. (not that he cares about that).
I got back to my hotel room about 25 mins ago.The results were already made official when I left th stadium and Benjamin was declared the winner and he went around celebrating and bumping fists and being interviewed by the Japanese media person. Which track were you at. Coz I was at the Tokyo track and this should have been obvious. Unless you just wanna create drama.

Calm down. Alison gave an interview to Brazilian TV. The one who mentioned disqualification to him was Samba, and he probably just passed that along to Rai. At no point did Alison complain during the interview. On the contrary, he said he wants to win a gold medal through merit, not because others are disqualified.

troll post. did you watch the actual race? (1) the guy you're talking about was 4th or 5th 10-20m back when rai hit the hurdle and (2) finished 4th after (3) clearing the hurdle without event or injury.
if you ever did hurdles, a little slant is not an injury risk.
the rule is intended for like you knock the guy's hurdle sideways or literally take out the next guy with the hurdle in some sort of simultaneous domino effect. it is not intended for you're off into the sunset and the guy behind you whose hurdle gets slightly jostled can see it hit and has 10-20m to adjust.
