graham blanks would’ve benefitted from setting a slightly faster pace in the race - he also knows he doesn’t have much of a kick so that actually would’ve helped his chances to place higher

This does feel like a missed opportunity for Grant. This was a relatively weak field compared to years past. I am sure he will be kicking himself. Good news is that the 5000 looks open too, especially with Jakob not at his best. Hopefully he can run a little braver and bring it home!

I hate these kind of races. No Americans deserved the podium. How can anyone go to Worlds and feel satisfied with this crap?

I would have loved it even more if they were Ritz’s guys.

Two things I noticed:

- Gressier was hugging the trail constantly. Never in first position, but always close to the lead. I was thinking that he was racing smartly but I never thought he would win.

- Kejelcha never ran in the inside lane. He probably ran a few meters more than Gressier.

Oh come on, this was a 28:55 race, not a 26:40 race; COMPLETELY different beasts.

So you think Grant could have killed a 12:38 guy (Kejelcha) and a 12:44 guy (Almgren) by frontrunning the last 5000m?!

Good grief! I thought the Centrowitz 3:50 1500m run would have put and end to this type of running in a global championship. This race was the ultimate joke! Young, Fisher, Kejelcha and the rest of them should be very embarrassed by their "performance". 29 minutes for a 10k in a global final? This race means nothing except to the 3 who had the fastest final 200 meters. They should all face 30 days in the penalty box.

Unpopular opinion, but athletes should have to hit a certain time in order to receive a physical medal/award at the Olympics or other major championship (they can still podium with inferior times, they just won’t receive the hardware).

Sort of a response to some of the comments:

- Time is irrelevant. You’re running to win. All these guys can run sub-27 or they wouldn’t have been in the race. But it was also 80s and high humidity. Some recent championship 10Ks have been really fast even in those conditions, but not today.
- Since everyone can run fast, nobody saw the benefit of pushing the pace from far out.
- This isn’t a failure of anyone - not Fisher, Young, or anyone. Yes, it’s ridiculous to have ten people in contention at the start of the final lap, but anyone who would have moved sooner would have a price. Maybe if the Ethiopians had worked together to push the pace they could have broken the field, but maybe not.
- It’s unfortunate for Fisher that he finished 5th (?), but they all based the race on him. Until last year he was swimming with the sharks. Now he’s one of them.

This is why I LOVE the 10,000 in a global championship. For me the meet has peaked now.

Well stated. People make it sound like the field was a bunch of hacks. If Grant went with a mile to go who knows. But that had its risks too. Usually Fisher is great in the heat. He looked great until about 150 out. World medals are tough tough tough to get
