Yeah, you can't have government employees, who are expected to serve everyone, gleefully cheering the assassination of a political figure and mocking his death and surviving family. That is grounds to be fired. They aren't being thrown in jail. Do you really think working for the government makes you immune from consequnces for such abhorrent behavior?

You realize free speech includes things you find abhorrent, but that I find hilarious, right? Government employees are viewed differently under the law - like how public sector unions can’t require dues because it’s compelled speech.

I don't agree with Rep Higgins, but I think it's coming from a place of immense hurt and grief. As the saying goes hurt people hurt people. He needs to take some time and breathe.

Pursuant to New York Codes, Rules, and Regulations (NYCRR) Part 83 (Determination of Good Moral Character), including sections 83.1, 83.6, and 83.7, the Commissioner has authority to investigate, impose preliminary suspensions, and ultimately suspend, limit, or revoke a certificate for any educator whose public conduct raises serious questions about their moral character or who is convicted of certain offenses.
