The problem with gravel roads is that they can differ in quality a lot during a year and especially after rain.
This is the West and it's really remote there. Once something happens you are stuck. Nobody might come along there for a day or two, maybe even longer. Europeans usually don't have a grasp on how remote things can get in the West of the US.

Occasionally, these off roads can have gates that a vehicle can't pass. Sounds like your team is well aware of possible obstacles, though.

Not everybody uses Strava.

I said "Garmin and/or Strava".
And he's running with 2 Garmin Enduro watches.
So there should at least be some GarminConnect data available (plus the possibility to import to Strava at anytime)

Are we ever going to see the data from km445 to km495? The entire route so far has filled in with the exception of that section, which ironically was the shortcut on very questionable roads.

Probably not but it looks like it doesn't matter. Stephane digged himself in a big hole on day one with his 100 mile stunt. Now he and his crew pays the price.

The crew is probably already exhausted but there are still plenty of very remote miles to go in Nevada and Utah. I wonder if they just have that one RV for all of them. They should have at least another bigger car in a record attempt.

Seems like they're very close to pace. Pete had to take a day off at the end of the first week and ended up averaging around 70 for week 1. Pete, Sandra, Jenny did all have their route, cadence, hr, elevation, altitude data public.

They have the RV plus one car.

After 6 days Stephane is 28.9 miles behind Pete's run in 2016. On the 7th day Pete took a day off, which is probably the weirdest move in Transcon history but it worked very well for him.

What's already obvious is, that Pete Kostelnick was much faster. It took him approximately 86:08 hours for 450.7 miles. Stephane has 100:17 hours for 421.8 miles. That's roughly 20-21 hours of rest less for Stephane over the first 450 mile stretch.

In the following weeks Pete kept his running time around 13:30 per day which gave him plenty of recovery time which is crucial in a long multiday run like this one.

Obviously the Frenchman will have to fight everyday to keep the pace. He knew that before starting.

We hope that after the necessary warm-up he will feel better and he will spend less time each day on the road.

The first 100 mile day was the wrong warm up for sure. If he would have studied PKs run, he would have known, that he needed to run only 64.4 miles per day in the first week to get to 450 miles.

Today Stephane will get ahead of Pete for a day or two but the 1 mile per hour difference in running speed will not work in Stephane's favor.
