That's one of the smartest workouts I've ever seen in my 82 years for a high school athlete and I had Berny Wagner of Hall of Fame and Fosbury's high jump coach for both High School and University. First, he does an 800 in 2:01 and the key to the next is the 6 minute rest. I used them all the time. Then he runs 6 x 200m and here is the reason of my success before I got old is the 6 minute rest. It's perfect because they are fast but not suicidal. He gets satisfaction without risking injury. A 600m in 1:30 which I expect allows him to relax yet fast enough.
The full recovery is insanely good and I expect he would stretch and jog around, stretch bs then a couple of strides and the key: A 23.0 flat 200 meters that's well under his pace in the 800, so he uses an entirely different set of muscles that had not been used yet. Result brilliant and at no time was he risking an injury before Tokyo. He's young so he could probably be led astray by overdoing it, but he's young. Let him race but let him train smart so he doesn't get burnt out. I still have some Masters World Records from the 1980's because Berny purposely made things fun so it became a way of life.
