That is one of the weirdest interviews ever. Perhaps Berardelli is giving him some kind of psychotropic drug for race day along with all the other stuff?
These frequent threads suggesting this or that runner could run 3:26 "right now" underestimate how phenomenal El G was.
So phenomenal that contemporaries Lagat ran 3:26 as well, and Ngeny the equivalent in the mile (3:43). We know how phenomenal full-throttle EPO was, but shoes, tracks, wavelights, training knowledge, and lots of other lesser thngs such as GPS watches have meant that a pair of insane natural talents (Jakob and Laros) could break his WR in the next couple of years.

Aren't you ashamed that not a single European ranked in the Top 10 of Sydney Marathon? Even Aouita you lied about him in an era where there was no EPO.
Athletics is right now an extremely poor sport and Coe worsening more and more the situation. African are not motivated any more to run a poor sport.
Look for them in half of the names of the National soccer team of your country.
Yeah, that explains why Kenya and Ethiopia are favorites for the World Cup.
6 British clubs over 10 in the Top richest Soccer Team. You put so much money in soccer with a few glory. Give 1/100 of this money to an East African Country and you will see some miracles.

(I couldn't find any official results with splits, but I looked up the race on Youtube, and these are aproximate splits)
Jakob at 20 (turning 21 a month and a half later): 1500: 3:28.32, closing splits: 1:50.1, 54.4, 40.8, 27.1, 13.6
The question is, which of them is the most impressive?
Interesting and substantive post. I would say the answer is Laros’s 3:45.94 is the most impressive run listed above, which is now virtually equaled by his 3:29.20, closing splits: 1:50.6, 53.4, 39.4, 25.9, 12.5. I wouldn’t be bothered by someone being a bit bullheaded and saying it’s Jakob’s 3:28.32, just on grounds of being nearly a second faster.
As for OP’s question, 3:26.xx is completely unknowable right now and may be a stretch, but I believe he can break 3:28 in a fast race, for sure, and I think he’s the most likely candidate out there to break the WR eventually. I see him as kind of the second coming of Steve Cram…maybe like Cram broke the 3:30 barrier, Laros will break the El Guerrouj barrier.

Many runners throw up after middle distance races. It’s the inner ear being affected. It’s not necessarily from being at your physical limit.
As an earlier poster noted, if Laros can’t run 3:26 right now, by the time he’s as old as Phanuel Koech he’ll be able to. Anyone who believes Phanuel is 18 is beyond gullible.

Drugs will enable that, not shoes.
By your own admission, you have never even worn a pair of super shoes. If you just went into a running shop and tried on a pair, you'd feel the difference just walking a few steps.

I would levitate? In '68 the ITF banned brush spikes because of the perceived advantage they gave. Yet shoes today that you claim carve huge chunks off runners best times excite no attention by those who govern the sport.
