Actually, discus is a field event. People are here to DISCUSS running only.
I often wonder if Jim Ryun monitors/reads this site.
It certainly would be great if someone of his historical stature posted on here
occasionally.

This is a SERIOUS REPLY.
How does he break the WR 1:40.91, by running a MORE efficient race (stay in lane 1 without being boxed) and give his FULL 100% effort.
In the USATF 800m Final he made several mistakes which included running the last 250 meters in lanes 2 & 3.
Mistakes?
He was not trying to break 1:40.91 in the USATF.

Easy, he just has to go 50.0, then 50.90 or quicker.
Or to contninue the trivialities; 1 minute frist lap and 40.90 for the second.

Why aren't u guys discus ing his workouts or his coach? Or his food? He must have the world's best workout and recovery plan. What is he doing that enables him to drop so much time so quickly? His 'system' reminds me of duane Ross's at NC a&t where his son won 3 ncaa championships and others were doing so well...

Get older and let nature take care of it.
This is 95% of it. The accumulated maturity, general and specific fitness, and life experience will take care of it all.
There isn't anyone who is going to teach him anything. He has already got the "it".
Continuing the trend...but for 800m! wrote:

By getting stronger over the next 3-10 years as he grows into what should be his prime years, without gaining so much weight that it negates the increase in strength. It could very well happen, but there is certainly no guarantee that it will.

At 16 Mary Decker set indoor 800/880 records and then went on to get much faster, setting many American records, a few WRs and her career lasted until at least 38. So based on that, not hard to imagine a American or possibly world record from Cooper in a few years, maybe not as grand a career as Decker-Slaney though. We'll see, I say he will at least run a second faster. Maybe WR, maybe not.
My question is how much taller does he get in the next few years. He turns 17 in December, and he’s already fairly tall, hopefully he doesn’t get too much bigger, as I think it could potentially be detrimental to 800m ability
