4 possible takes to explain Tsegay's race;
1. Lack of discipline - she blasted off in the first 400 unintentionally
2. A deliberate attempt to destroy Jess Hull from the outset even if it meant suffering in the process
3. Curiosity about the sub 4 min mile barrier - if Faith is having a crack at it why can't she explore that pace in a real race
4. Something in her training (fair means or foul) suggests it's not necessarily as suicidal as it might have seemed, but she can't make it stick. The female marathon WR was set in this way, although we know it's not a clean record.
After watching the replay, I'm happy to be the contrarian and say: This was a brilliant race. Tsegay not only won, but she dominated at every point, in every respect--AND got that fast time into the bargain. The negativity on this board is remarkable.
And yes: The tactics she deployed were clearly deliberate (#2, above).
Tsegay is an obvious EPO user.

She won the race. Seems like her tactics worked just fine. This is the opposite of sit and kick, which is the only LRC approved tactic.
No one is saying she isn’t a monster athlete , but she could be much better

Again, this is part of why it was so smart! If she asked for a rabbit at 4:07, all of the other runners would have known that was her plan and adapt. Asking for a rabbit at 4:10 and then running dramatically faster than it makes the other competitors think she is doing something stupid, and like clueless commentator Cram believe she will either crater or drop out.

I could understand this take if she blew up and finished 4th or 5th, but she didn’t.
Could she have run faster with different pacing? Maybe, but what is known is that she ran the 2nd fastest time ever and won the race. So hardly running like an idiot.
What is running like an idiot, is letting other people dictate a slow pace and then getting out kicked. Yet we constantly see athletes that have no chance of winning a sit and kick race continually letting the races be run like that. That is idiotic.

My guess is she was miffed that she wasn't chosen for the Sub 4 Nike race. She knew she was going to win this race so just gamble and see. Nothing to lose for her.
