Yeah Lagat too presumably at 1500. Or maybe for whatever reason they don't really care if he makes Worlds. Maybe they think it'd be too much too soon to do Worlds and he won't even be at trials purposely. Either way I'm a bit confused and would love an answer from his team
While I’m no fan of putting it in the selectors’ hands if it’s the Cheruiyots by a lot like at Kenyan nationals and Kipsang/Komen/Lagat don’t feature well, perhaps they pick him. Either way, there must be some rationale here I agree.
Its possible but I just don't really feel like AK has done that recently. I'm thinking when they took an injured Ferguson Rotich over Kinyamal and if they were eligible it looked like they'd have taken Etiang and Munguti over Tim and Komen on separate occasions. Maybe there's an agreement in place but I don't see Koech being proven enough like Wanyonyi, lets see what happens
Wanyonyi reportedly will be given a spot and is exempt. That is per the Daily Nations reporting. My only thought for Koech is a) they’re very confident b) maybe he doesn’t have the needed tests, though that wouldn’t square with him being invited. Otherwise, it feels reckless to me, as if Komen/Kipsang are on they’re dangerous. The Cheruiyots both are tough to beat.
I wonder if Koech will actually be there. Kenyan trials are just 3 days after London DL...
They say Wanyonyi has a bye, but surely Koech hasn't got one.
I hope UKAD jump on Koech as soon as he gets off the plane. Better still, the Met Police should do the same as the French did with Sedjati in Paris - raid his hotel room the night before the race searching for drugs paraphenelia.

But who leads the third lap? My money is on Mills with Kerr just trying to draft for 1400m
Just kinda hate for Mills if he’s basically 2025 Stewy McSweyn. I hope he is seriously considering the 5,000 exclusively if he finishes outside of the top 3 here.

That seems most likely. He definitely seems to be more focused on the 5,000. He didn't even run the 1500 at Euro indoors. My guess is he's just miling this year to train for the 5.
It has to be tempting though to double since it seems like he could make the team for both.

On the latter exactly, but that’s the trap. Oh and I ran 3:28, Im a medal contender! Well can you close in sub-40s 300s from any spot in the track? Nope, well you’re probably not doing anything.

I think he'll definitely try to qualify in the 1500. He'll get the discretionary spot in the 5k and I can't see how three other Brits beat him in the 1500. He shouldn't double in Tokyo, but pride might get the better of sound judgement. He's already achieved something this year in smashing the UK 5k record. I can't see that being broken any time soon. Selfishly, I hope he does take it on because I'd like to see a British record in person
Interesting. Nice to see a second set of lights in the 5k, there'll be a good bunch of women going for 14:50. 4:10 pacing for the mile is very interesting, maybe Jess Hull having a crack at the WR?

On the one hand I get that the opportunity to compete in 2 events is so enticing. On the other hand, I’ve just seen so many instances where the second event is the better opportunity and the whole thing backfires.
It would backfire for him, as it did in Paris. I think he has a genuine medal chance in the 5k, not many will have 3:28 speed over a final km. But on the 1500 I think his best outcome is probably 6th. It's a shame for him, he has clearly strength but lacks that elite last 150
Looks like almost continuous rain in London from now until about 3:00pm, basically the entire meet. Times may be slow.
Met Office weather radar is showing East London should avoid the rain during the DL slot. On the positive side, if it is raining for the sprints, it might open the door to British wins. I remember the Gateshead DL a few years ago when it was pissing with rain and Dina Asher-Smith smoked Richardson and SAFP. Rain is the great leveller for British sprinters. Check out one of the greatest athletics photos ever taken from the 100m at the rain soaked British champs:
