Speaking only for myself, but also other unvaccinated folks, we adhered to all the “rules,” distancing, masking, testing, and quarantining when sick (unlike my superspreader friend). I was never not trying to cultivate natural immunity and it was quite effective. By the way, a little Xlear goes a long way and would’ve kept millions of people out of trouble, but “we” never had any interest in exploring it scientifically. I mean, Xlear sure tried, only to run into a cease and desist.
When you speak of Djokovic, you are saying everyone had agency. Absolutely nobody had agency in the early days. People lost jobs, small businesses, schools, and parks got shut down, and private corporations followed top down, government edicts, speaking of Kingship. Natural immunity was not recognized and the scientific community went way out of its way to downplay it as much as possible. Vaccines were forced in many countries, and if you didn’t get one in the US, you were ostracized, discriminated against, and excluded, at least during the “initial series.”

But you obviously seem aware that your method risked long Covid and death. The downside of obtaining natural immunity are all of the known consequences of actually contracting Covid, including long Covid and death -- compounded by the fact that it was happening at such a high rate, saturating hospitals and mortuaries. It wasn't so much downplayed as deemed undesirable on a national scale.
In the USA, the early days were under Trump. I was fortunate not to live in the USA, where there was a lot of misinformation and blame shifting for Trump's inaction (wouldn't it be nice if that nasty little virus just blew away?) and incompetence, which made the problem far worse in the USA (we're #1!), than it should have been and when compared to other countries whose leaders and citizens acted more responsibly. By the way, I wasn't forced to get vaccinated, and my wife and daughter never got vaccinated. It was cumbersome at times, as they had to test negative to participate in some group events. Neither of us missed work (nor were fired or lost our jobs), and our kids didn't miss out in school.

I was weak for 3 days. I recovered quickly. I was relieved to have received my Natural Active Immunity.

That doesn't seem like an issue at all. Many mutations are not interesting, and the highly contagious ones effectively wiped out the previous variants. I think (my opinion, don't quote me) the combination of Omicron's contagiousness and less severity helped solve the issue of the unvaccinated and unimmune. But you are right -- nothing says this couldn't all change with the next variant.
