Legit! I don't know why someone dogged my comment about his Roman breastplate of an upper body.
Solinksy is show AND go, this is to be absolutely saluted!

Today he would be a Hyrox star! In all seriousness, he was not that big but he was country strong. Worked the hay bales throughout high school. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a dairy farm. Did you know that Elle Purrier St Pierre lives an and works on a dairy farm?!

Superior Polish DNA and a big booty. Those glutes could generate a lot of power.

Why did you repost this after the mods deleted it? None of it is true. Totally insane.
I think distance runners get too obssessed with being skinny or lean.
Here is my rationale:
In bodybuilding, it is absolutely GOSPEL that to gain muscle mass in the long term, you need to be in a long term calorie surplus. This "calorie surplus" fact has been proven again and again and is true based on first principles (first law of thermodynamics) and the lived experience of every body builder ever.
The goal in distance running isn't to add muscle mass (obviously) but it is to grow muscles/tissues in a way that make you race fast. The tissues distance runners want to grow are slow growers but to be fast you have grow a lot of new muscle and tendons, especially in the legs. And to grow these tissues in the long term, you HAVE to be a long term calorie surplus. There is simply no way to progress in the long term in a long term calorie defecit.
therefore, i'd much rather have an extra % of bodyfat and be in a long term calorie surplus during training. That extra body fat is 1) a sign you are in calorie surplus 2) a sign your body can absorb training and progressively get faster.
Some people (Matt) are naturally more muscular than others and in a calorie surplus will add muscles in response to even distance training. If you are adding muscle and running 100 MPW consitently then OMG you are gonna smash your next race.
He was in the range of a typical middle distance runner's size. Marco Arop, Wyclife Kinyamal and Olli Hoare are bigger dudes. He's still a bit of an outlier for long distance (Sean McGorty also comes to mind here) but its nothing too crazy IMO.

He was on a mix of EPO,and steroids.
Chris Solinsky was exceptionally strong and would have been reasonably good at Soccer, Football, Hockey or Baseball if he went in those respective directions.
People generally don't know this but Wayne Solinsky, Chris's father, was also a respectable runner in the late 1970s for SPASH in high school. The time and place matters. It is also important to know that SPASH has always had good distance running programs. When it was Wayne Solinsky's turn to lead the contingent, there were 3-mile times equivalent to sub-16 in the 5k, a sub-9:30 3200 converted from 2-miles and a 5th place individual state medal.
Wayne Solonsky, aviator shades and all, was no slouch as a distance runner.
Now that we know Chris Solinsky inherited reasonably genetics and someone in the family household to help influence his decision to run, the question is really how Chris became strong enough to nearly equal his father's pverall best high school times as a freshman.
I contend intense summer farm work growing up, 80 mile weeks in high school and a potato-based diet might have something to do with his success.
The previous Solinsky generations owned and operated a mid-sized family farm almost up until Chris Solinsky was born. There might have been a commercial storefront. Definitely a host for family and social gatherings after a hard day's work. Despite the farm changing ownership, the Solinsky's were still plugged into the farm industry and perhaps the economic flows of that same farm. The wholesome, strong farm work ethic and Chris naturally being the strongest of that bunch, helps scaffold a platform for success.
Chris Solinsky also found unsual sources of energy at the Stevens Point Hardee's drive thru on Church St that could be attributed to his long term success. In his headphones was the song I am #1 by Nelly, on repeat which may have aided his desire to be #1.
