I don't think you know the meaning of the word "courageous". Most entitled whites don't, including you and the 2 numbnuts who didn't stand on the podium. Cry baby cry!
Funny how it's "the trans issue" that is constantly discussed in the male-dominated LRC and not any of these other things.
This issue allows fake macho guys to play the traditional role of "protectors" of girls/women which satisfies their need for validation. This is based on their patriarchal ideology that women are the weaker sex that need to be protected by male authority figures.
"Abusive coaching" may also qualify as another issue like that, and I wonder why people on this board are not more vocal about this... especially sexual abuse by male coaches.
It looks like the girls tried to stand with their backs to the crowd behind their appropriate podium spots and the official told them to move, probably because it would be a "bad" image in photographs. They should have refused and just stayed there. What could he do, grab a teenage girl and physically move her out of the way in front of a few thousand people? It would have caused an uproar and he would have been labeled a child molester on internet message boards.
It was a proper, peaceful protest. I don't remember anybody asking Tommy Smith and John Carlos to put their hands down in Mexico City.
Probably more afraid of Nikki Hiltz and her ilk riling up the online she-male brownshirts to ruin their lives. I don't blame them honestly.
It's wonderful to see so many high school girls standing up to this nonsense. Social pressure on females is orders of magnitude stronger than males. I find their bravery inspiring. A year ago, they would have been suspended, publicly humiliated, and doxxed.
I wouldn't be so sure that that won't still happen honestly. Maybe it can motivate congress and the administration to finally take some legal action against the internet lynch mobs.
WTF. People downvoting. The person that was protested against finished 5th and the media and original poster didn't actually do the research and look at the track results and actual discussion.

People on this board are allergic to facts. You'd better get used to it.
I’m sorry the long jump girls in California stayed up on the podium as the fraud boy winner mocked the entire awards ceremony with his serpent like drag queen prance and his peace sign salute
The courage of those girls is incredible. It may seem like a small thing, but for those teenagers subject to the scrutiny of so many hostile school officials and other "woke" adults, making that small protest took a huge amount of bravery. I live in greater Seattle, have three athlete daughters, and have been watching boys win championships for the last few years in the girls division. And yet, I'm afraid to speak out. Openly holding any opinion in places like this that might be construed as Republican is grounds for ostracization. It's so much easier to stay silent, and that's what the vast majority of people do. On the flip side, those who advocate for the transgender athletes are celebrated.
Anyway, I really respect those two girls for taking a stand. It wasn't easy. It's easy to say things anonymously on a message board, but what they did is incredible.
Very much so. Add in high school politics as well, that can't have been easy.
The SF chronicle article is behind a paywall, but the jist is that the actual female athletes don't seem to care too much. It's clear they are not saying this because of coercion or political correctness, they genuinely don't seem to mind nearly as much about it as the middle aged guys protesting outside the stadium.
This is it, 100%. Look, I have daughters. They love sports! They have friends who are gay, bi, and yes, transgender. They don't care about any of this; in fact, they care more about their friends and their mental health from the abuse they get from random adults.
There's so much in the middle here. I personally happen to think that they shouldn't be competing, apples to apples. But I'm also not protesting outside of a track meet, screaming at children like a lunatic.
The amount of transphobia in this sport makes me embarrassed to be associated with it.
I agree that a lot of the responses show a lack of understanding (ignorance) and no willingness to listen and come up with a workable solution.
But, like I said, at the high school level these are actually boys who grew their hair and put on makeup.
That's different than someone actually going through hormone therapy and gender reassigning surgery.
The ignorance is indeed embarrassing.
I was curious too -- and I read about Swyer syndrome, which is a genetic condition where a person is born female, presents female, but due to an inactive sex-determining region chromosome, will have undeveloped genitalia and thus be as close to an ambiguous gender as you can get.
And that is one of apparently 45-50 *known* conditions of ambiguity or malformed development!
None of that is to say that I think boys should compete against girls! But none of this conversation seems to be centered on actual solutions or even a sober, intelligent view of the science. It's just adults hating children.
The rules are a huge part of the problem. In Oregon, you just have to “sincerely” identify as transgender. No proof of a dysmorphia diagnosis, hormone therapy, or counseling required. It’s an honor system and OSAA accepts the athlete’s word for it.
At a minimum, some medical records proof of beginning a legitimate transition process should be required.

Literally the only feasible and verifiable system for mass-participation children's sports.
Or please, tell us your better idea.
I was at a track meet this weekend with well over 1000 girls competing, mostly aged 12-17. Should every one of them need to submit a doctor's note?
And what information should that doctor's note have, pray tell? A genital exam? Because that wouldn't rule out Semenya? Chromosomal testing? To run middle school track?
As a parent and a doctor, I respectfully encourage you to think a bit harder of the implications of what you are proposing. (Which are MUCH more onerous than the minimal impacts of a trans kid being in a few girl's races.)
