I can’t with the annoying American commentators. Saying “oh wow” over and over again in the middle of a 200m race while Steve Cram is commentating. Just shut up and let the professional do it.
That "oh wow" commentator is Canadian. They're not the 51st state yet.
Why is GST incapable of using normal/watchable camera angles?
It’s either super zoomed-in (which prevents you from seeing where the racers are relative to the finish line) or overhead (which makes you dizzy).
I think there is a pretty clear production directive to make sure that sections of the stadium that don't have a lot of people in them, aren't shown. Hence the crazy camera angles.
GST again proving that, for whatever reason, it's very hard to create an interesting sporting event out of thin air.
For the men's short distance in particular, the format just isn't really working. Must be tough for Kerr and Hocker to keep running these 800s and not even be a real part of the race (at least Nuguse is beating them).
The other thing that's clear is that it's not interesting to watch the same races over and over. This problem is particularly acute in running where there is very little randomness in performance. At least with team sports or golf there is enough randomness for the event to play out very differently every time. But even with those sports, scarcity matters—I'm decidedly less interested in watching Hocker/Kerr/Nuguse now that I've seen it 5 times already this year.
Their website also might be the worst I've ever seen in the sporting space.
