Quite the opposite, a guy like Karalis probably wouldn't have cleared 6m at this point if it wasn't for the competition and motivation a guy like Mondo provides.
Girma and Sime (not Sima) are both 19 years old. By comparison, Nico Young is 22 and Graham Blanks is 23. Aregawi is 24. The two Ethiopian teens will both be medal contenders in 2028 if not sooner. I wonder if Kuma Girma is related to Lamecha Girma.
Kuma is Lamechas younger brother.
That explains a lot. What a talent.
Are Adisu Girma (3:34.71 1500), Ermias Girma (3:34.73 1500), Demelesh Girma (8:29.67 steeplechase), Tesfaye Girma (8:16.14 steeplechase), and Diriba Girma (3:37.16 1500) also family members?
Good run for Wiley, 1188 points is higher than any race she ran last year until August 28 with the 1:56.8 in Poland followed by the AR in the 1000m. Only hit 1188+ three times last year.
Duguma 1:56.64 meet record, Wiley 5th in 1:58.59, Hurta-Klecker 7th in 1:59.11
That was a PB for the Olympic Silver Medalist, 0.19 seconds faster than Wiley’s PB from last summer.
That really says something about what could have been last summer. Wiley ran faster than the Olympic silver medalist in 2024 and only now, 9 months after the Olympics, has the silver medalist caught up. Only women faster at 800m in 2024 than Wiley were Hodgkinson (Olympic gold), Moraa (Olympic bronze), Bell (Olympic bronze 1500m), and Reekie (Wold Indoor silver).
Add "What if Wiley hadn't strained her hamstring in June" to the what-ifs thread.

The pole vault is interesting for the first time in decades precisely BECAUSE of Mondo.
No. It is interesting when there is competition and it is not a given who will win. I was rooting for Karalis to get over 6.11. When there is an athlete that's too dominant, I find the event boring.
I don't know what Kendricks is doing. I say again that he needs to adjust his strategy of wasting energy at those lower heights. You only have at most 6 good jumps before fatigue sets in.

If you think it's boring to watch the greatest ever in his event constantly try to raise the standards of the sport and break world records then the sport probably isn't for you.
