I think that many of you are going to be terribly disappointed by how the athletes will be handling GST. It is a payday not a competition. Just wait and see.
I love Elise gutsy attitude and if Weini isn't the first American woman to run sub 30 than hopefully it's Elise oh wait or Shelby!
Gutsy, yes.
But I hope not reckless, as she's racing the GST 5/3 double opener in Kingston the following week.
So far as I know, Elise is the only GST distance competitor racing this weekend. How she can turn around in one week from a 10,000 AR attempt, have no idea.
As well as believing Elise was done with the 10,000 for another year or two.
Her recent Flagstaff training camp with Jared/coach must be going so well that The TEN was an opportunity she just couldn't pass by.
.....
I'm sure just about every American 10000m female athlete would rather be the first Westerner to run sub 30 minutes EVER and worry about GST later. I'm just ready for the AR to get to 29 something now that the WR is sub 29.

That's correct. Most of the athletes are treating it as a payday for them and entertainment for the fans. Most of the athletes aren't going to take it very seriously.

Correction to earlier post: Lobalu, Bekele along w/Cranny GST Competitors.
No one runs an all-out 10,000 then comes back a week later to race a 5000 unless it's the Worlds or Olympics. So, yes, this trio is prioritizing The TEN over their first GST races Not expecting anything exceptional from them in Jamaica. If Grant is going to win a Slam $100k paycheck, Kingston is the place to do it.
Also, agree with AR needing to be well under 30:00 to at least appear respectable against the current 28:54.14 WR. Would help even more if Cranny, Kelati --- or even Houlihan if she's feeling great --- to get the win Saturday night over Hailu & others.
You actually think that Houlihan is lying about only being a rabbit and that she'll run the whole 10k? I don't see her doing that.
No, not lying.
Shelby would not double cross Elise -- one of her best friends who also happens to be her staunchest supporter re: Shelby's drug ban innocence claims.
But, yes, Shelby could still finish the race.
Occasionally, we'll see a rabbit move to the outer lanes & slow down when the targeted pacing distance is reached, only to step back into the race a few moments later and continue on through the finish.
That is what I am implying Shelby might do if she reaches her goal pacing distance (5000? 8000? no specifics yet from Sound Running or Shelby) and still feels strong enough to continue racing.
I would have to imagine Shelby would need to "clear" this option with Elise & other runners chasing sub-30:00, as well as Jesse/Meet Mgr, prior to race time. Especially since she may have the fitness to actually win the race.
However, I agree, I don't see her doing that.
Just noting it's possible because it's been done before.
And, high school entry fields now (3/25 Tue eve) populated @ soundrunning.run.
Not as well versed on the prep scene as many others here on the forum. Rylee Blade/Santiago Corona in the 3200 race is the one nationally prominent name I recognize.

I would imagine after the 3000 sliver she is laser focused on the 5000 this year.

For Elise Cranny, I mean if Agnes Ngetich comes in shape it’s going to be the W1500 at World Indoors in at least one of the races. I suppose Taye and Gebreselama will go with her but Elise will be nowhere close. Let’s be honest on that one. But not every event group/athlete is the same.

I think this year shows how much Cranny loves racing. Now that she's not being coached by Schumacher, she can race more than once or twice a year. I am 100% here for that.
100 percent. Our youth track club has over 300 now and the high school has to cut for safety in numbers. Our daughter jumps in Ms and they have over 50 kids that want to jump.
Per Flotrack's Friday afternoon series of athlete interviews (below), word/rumor is there may/will be pace lights set at 26:45 for the men's Tokyo races.
Timing site will have live splits for those not in attendance:
