I distinctly remember Salhman giving an interview after the Olympic Trial prelim or something where he said Smith didn't give him any tactical advice but told him to trust his instincts because his instincts are really good.. so maybe it's time they reevaluate that because he is probably one of the most talented in the NCAA

I just watched his Olympic trials 1500m semi again. His strategy was fine, and he was where he needed to be, but his strength was far short of what it would have taken to advance to the final.
People forget that progression isn't always linear for athletes. That's just reality. We always expect them to drop a second or two each year and be competing for conference champs, or the olympic trials, by their senior year and it just doesn't work like that. Some speed up, some take a while to adjust to new found maturity in bodies and different coaching staffs and come on strong later in college or even after they graduate.
And some top out early. We see it more with women then men, but i happens. Time will tell.
