You did not get a couple of my points, my fault . The point about scholarship, only was..that it's not like he is paying for this or Student Loaning it, otherwise it matters not, you are right. But, there are enough "MF" speaking athletes to pick from today, as far as NIL $ goes and like it or not it is not a good look for a Villanova, he is a face and rep of the school its not a Power 5 hoops or football program . You can still be hard edge which he surely is, without 40 plus F bombs in 6;32. You can get your message across without it. I hate to use this example, but Kessler has been in the spotlight since he was 18, ever hear him interview like that? Goofy, yeah..vulgar.. Not
Two quick things:
-Great job by Langon on the track but he has GOT to clean up his act in terms of presentation. Unforgivable. Not only makes him look exceedingly bad but reflects VERY poor on Villanova.
-Forget about Kessler....you never EVER see this type of thing in an interview from ANY other runner. Can you imagine a Georgetown kid coming out a cursing like a sailor? A Stanford kid? Ridiculous.
I root for Langon...tough and talented kid. That said, he must do better. This is fixable.
Agreed , all the way.
My only point about Kessler was/is, is here is a guy who had some rough rough times and expectations since 18, Mic in his face a LOT, nothing even close to that ever came out, same with all the other guys mentioned, plus he is used to this, have seen him on Big East and other for two years now. And do not misunderstand me, Langon is great, not good, this was a tactical- no pace setter 5K, that beat the Meet Record and 6th was 13:14 .2.8 from 1-6 places
Langon’s interview reminded me of Eric Holt, whose raw story-telling/self-promotion in interviews helped him to get sponsored.
My favorite part of the interview was the end when Langon 1) asked Rojo how does he not know Langon’s year in school, and 2) said he doesn’t understand why Rojo thinks it’s crazy for an American to not be getting much attention for running close to 13:10.
Those of us who are old enough to remember the dark days of American distance running in the 1990s need to realize that today’s U.S. high school and college runners have a completely different frame of reference. They are coming up in a world where an American has won 1500m gold in two out of the last three Olympics. They believe they can win too.
He comes across as whiny. And why should rojo have the exact eligibility of every 6th place finisher memorized?
DMR should have run the DMR, they would have gotten a lot more than the 3 points they got from this 5k.
A lot more points? How many? LOL. No guarantee they finish higher than 3rd and that's with a 3:51 or better from Murphy or Langon, in these Champ runs, you almost waste a best guy on the 12, leader was 2:52.x , not enough to not have multiple teams within 1-2 secs if tat.

What are the “rough rough times” that Kessler went through? Anything as difficult as not having a father around? The financial stress of needing to help provide for his family?
Runners don’t need to all act the same. Let Kessler be Kessler and let Langon be Langon. Most people who aren’t diehards think track is boring. Now we got a young American runner with a colorful personality and you people want him to act like all the other boring guys. Forget that!

So many of you are wrong about this.
Yes, he can clean things up a little bit in the future.
But I LOVED it because I don't want to see the interview of some Stanford kid, some georgetown kid or some villanova kid. I don't want to see an interview of a runner acting a certain way because they think that's how they think they should act. I want to see an interview of Marco Langon.
We live in an age of inauthenticity. I want AUTHENTIC - warts and all.

But Rojo you are telling us you want to see what you perceive to be authenticity, and yet some of us who are quite authentic on these message boards are often getting our posts deleted and we are getting banned. So clearly not all of you are on board regarding wanting authenticity. Just saying…
Because people only care what a talented individual has to say after a race. Not what some basement dweller like yourself types.
You seem to be jealous of me. I am likely more talented than Marco. But not necessarily at running. Being talented at running doesn’t necessarily make one interesting, but you are not bright enough to comprehend this.
I think Marco is just another “the world is all about me” kid. And how authentic is he really? Rojo asked him what he is going through, and he refused to answer, saying he keeps his cards close to his vest. I was not impressed with him at all, but maybe it can mostly be explained by the fact that he is just another self absorbed 20 year old.
I don’t think that putting pressure on himself (“i have to put food on the table”, “i have to be the man of the house”) is going to get him anywhere.
No matter how much you tell yourself that you “have to” get on the podium in important races, that doesn’t shift outcomes one bit. It’s just not effective.
You could just as easily have a narrative that on the track, the privileged kids of the world have NOTHING that you don’t have. Their family’s luxury SUV won’t help them on bit on the last lap. Their dad’s software engineer income can’t shave even a fraction of a second of their finishing time.
I have no objection to his speaking style or his tattoos, but the strategy of approaching his running with a quasi-chip on his shoulder (family not super wealthy, dad wasn’t a good role model) prob hurts him more than it helps him.

I mean it got him 15th at NCAA xc and 6th last night, but okay. Where are the young twins? On their couch this weekend like you and I.

Don't you think posting this interview can get him in trouble with his program?
I root for him as well, but if I was an admin at Villanova I would not be happy with how this portrays the program/school.

I love authentic, but also: if he really wants to provide for his family, he needs to be looking at this as a business (as he apparently already does). And in business, for good or ill, there are certain expectations that we all get to meet (certain people are exceptions to behaving how they are "supposed to" behave, but those exceptions just prove the rule). The passing comment about having issues academically is also noteworthy. I certainly wish Marco well; this is the first interview I've seen of him, and he definitely has some spunk and potential. Just gotta harness it.
You folks are so lame. Totally raw interview. His fear of failure far exceeds his desire to win. For those of you offended by the F-Bomb, grow the fvck up. North Easterners, and especially the Irish use it as an adjective in virtually every other sentence. Stop the prim & proper bullsh@t. This kid's passion is off the charts. Sacrilegious to compare his balls to Pre but ...

Marco has no monopoly on being authentic. I am authentic and I think you need to stay in your lane. You like Marco’s interview. I don’t. I think Marco is nothing like Pre. Pre was a champion.
