Yeah, he was on his own for the last 17k. Picked it up quite strongly to 35k and then had a wall and ground it out. I think his 30-35k was the quickest split solo
And thats a very tough course with a huge hill at the end and it was cold and windy. I feel like that's worth at least 1-2 mins in say Seville or Valencia
Kiptum’s debut record (2:01:53) could still be on. But I think the fast start will cost him
Debut records should be sanctioned and regularly listed for many events. Would be a great extra statistic for all of us Autistic Track & Field fans. If he beats Kiptum's 2.01.53, he'll have Baregaing-rights. ...but if he fails to finish, he'll look like a Selemon.

Just makes me hope it really clicks in Boston for Mantz. He should be a 2:04 guy on a fast course at some point, but also a podium contender in Boston.

That his pacing was so erratic, he was solo for so long, and he was racing 3ks at this time last year makes me pretty confident he’ll run 2:02 eventually.
Super solid. Just don't get the early pacing sometimes. It's clear he wasn't ready for the WR but was ready for something faster than 2:05. Left 2:02-2:03 on the table. If he was an even 1:01:30 through halfway I think he runs 2:02-high. Even an even 1:01:45, which he split, gets him under 2:04 imo.
very solid. I think in this era, the rational mindset is to just go big for the debut and maybe get lucky. Running 2:05 vs 2:03 doesn’t matter for guys like this. But running WR or very close to it matters hugely for fame and money. So guys in highly anticipated debuts might as well go for it. If they miss, no big deal, they can regroup and focus on running the next one or two “smarter”
