Giving people a 310 or 450 point SAT boost based on their race is anti-merit.
If it's solely based on race, this is certainly true.
To top the fear, a National Study of College Experience led by Espenshade and Radford (2009) showed that a student who self-identifies as Asian will need 140 SAT points higher than whites, 320 SAT points higher than Hispanics, and 450 SAT points higher than African Americans.
Student Yi-Chen (Jenny) Wu writes about the role of Asian racial/ethnic identity development in academic admissions, intergenerational family relations and its impact on one's mental health.
I went to Stuyvesant. Didn’t see any Nigerians. Although my yearbook did have two pages of kids with the last name “Chang.” ( not a joke). Where did you go?
AI Overview
Stuyvesant High School in New York City is a highly competitive public school with a diverse student body.
Student demographics Race: 71% Asian, 17% White, 4% Hispanic or Latinx, 2% Black, <1% Native American or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander
71% Asian? Doesn't sound diverse to me.
Like the NBA, it’s one of those strange places that is merit based.
A lot of schools are bypassing affirmative action by not requiring SAT. Guess who won't submit SAT score but their As from garbage schools but still get accepted? There are kids graduating from democrat city schools with A avgs but scoring 25 percentile on SAT.
Do you not understand what proof of racial discrimination means? It's not "the numbers aren't what we want based on SAT distribution charts". Your stance is that there HAS to be a certain number of Asians admitted or else they are being discriminated against. That's not proof.
Why don't you support merit? Why should lesser qualified people be admitted due to fulfilling DEI quotas?
MIT stopped using affirmative action and here's how their class changed:
Asian: 40% to 47%
White: 38% to 37%
Hispanic: 16% to 11%
Black: 15% to 5%
Turns out, the lawsuit was about fairness for all.
Stay focused - you're slipping off topic. Never did I say that I "don't support merit", whatever that means.
I asked for proof that they are engaging in racial discrimination and all you've been able to argue is that there is no way they aren't being discriminated against because the number of Asians admitted isn't what you want it to be.
I have to blame minorities for my shortcomings and use them as scapegoats for me not getting into the school/job/marriage I wanted and felt I deserved.
What’s the problem with that? A student raised by a single mother and working 6 hours a day to support the family with a 1470 SAT and 3.9 GPA versus a $200K+ family income student with a 1510 SAT and 4.0 GPA: who would you pick? I’d say it’s not obvious and would want to look deeper. Hardship normalization is not anti-merit.

Sounds like you are not disagreeing with anything I actually said.
I'd be more interested in how they got the numbers, rather than what the numbers were in themselves, given that the wealthy and privileged get access to all kinds of resources that raise those scores or make GPAs count simply because their parents pay the $60k plus to get them into a feeder school they wouldn't get into if it were need-blind admissions. They get expensive tutors, better teachers, more and better guidance counselors, and they get into places simply because they are at the feeder school, thus cheating talented public school kids from around the country of spots they'd take more advantage of.

I'm not off-topic, dumba$$. How are you not able to comprehend it?
Colleges claimed that they need to discriminate on the basis of race – affirmative action – to get a class that fit their desired demographic quotas. But when SCOTUS banned affirmative action the demographics barely changed. This obviously shows they still were discriminating against Asians, and to a lesser extent whites.
I'll have to find it but I remember seeing a study from the past few years – if admissions were solely due to merit top colleges would be about 48% Asian, 45% white, the rest other.

Why so vitriolic? Claiming I am anti-merit is certainly off topic. You have offered no proof. Your argument is that there must be discrimination because there weren't as many Asians admitted as you wanted and list specific % of racial admissions that you claim schools have to have in order to not be guilty of discrimination. THAT is racial discrimination.

You simply cannot find 13% of the doctors from people scoring at the bottom of the pole. That is what the democrats are trying to cram down on society.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Average SAT Score by Race/Ethnicity
SAT scores broken down by race/ethnicity showed similar trends to those of the ACT.
In 2024, Asian students achieved the highest average SAT score of 1228.
Asian students’ average score was 347 points higher than the average SAT score of American Indian/Alaska Native students, which was 881.
The group with the second-highest SAT score was “Two or More Races” with 1090, slightly higher than white students.
Black students had the second-lowest average SAT score at 907. They comprised 12% of test-takers.
Nigerians send over their elites. That’s why they do so well. This isn’t the case with Asians to nearly the same extent.
Most Asians who were allowed to come to the US since 1965 belong to one of the following groups.
1. Those who originally came as college or graduate students and were allowed to stay here after graduation because they managed to find jobs that require their credentials.
2. Those who already had college or graduate degree, and were offered professional positions from US employers.
3. Those who have either #1 or #2 as family members.
Asians who do not belong to any of those groups tend to have low income.
So our government accepts only Asians who are already successful or likely to succeed, and then claim "Looks how successful they are. You can overcome discrimination if you work hard. Other minorities should do the same."

You're just illiterate. Colleges said they needed affirmative action to get a "diverse class": i.e. to achieve their desired quotas. Yet when affirmative action was banned the classes' demographics barely changed.
