Yared who? Jakob MF Ingebrigtsen DESTROYS Nuguse's WR - 3:45.14!!

Huge run, split 3:29, nice squeeze down at the end. Worth like 3:28 low and it's only February. Praying he stays healthy through Monaco. I think Hocker is gonna be good enough to challenge him, but honestly Jakob is looking so good right now, he might still be able to outrun Hocker (and the rest) from the front if he goes out a little bit slower.

Seb Coe broke Steve Ovett's mile record two days after he set in it 1981. Coe had also had broke the mile world record a week before Ovett had set it too. So, the mile WR was broken three times in about a week and a half in that stretch.

Or rather, doesn't try to go wire to wire.

Honestly he’s scared. He could have raced the best in the world last week at Millrose but instead decided to hold what essentially is a time trial. If he continues to avoid racing like this he’s going to keep getting beat when it really counts like he has been.

Great find! A contemporary article notes he ran 880y in 1:45.1 breaking Tom Courtney's record of 1:46.8 by 1.7s, and 1:44.3 for 800m, breaking Belgian Roger Moens' record by 1.4s. This was one week after he broke Herb Elliott's mile record by 0.1s in 3:54.5.

World Athletics notes "Ingebrigtsen becomes the first athlete since John Landy in 1954 to set world records for the mile and 1500m in the same race."

The only other men's en-route outdoor 1500m WR was Wes Santee's 3:42.8 immediately preceding Landy's WR (6/4/54), but he slowed in the final 109m and finished in 4:00.7, failing to break Bannister's 3:59.4 WR.

Steve Ovett ran 3:48.40 on August 26, 1981.

Sebastian Coe ran 3:47.33 on August 28, 1981.

I imagine there are other examples.

Steve Ovett set a mile WR on August 26th, 1981 and Coe broke it two days later.

Steve Ovett held the outdoor WR for two days back in 1981 before Coe broke it again. So Yared has company as a short timer.

Amazing race by Jakob. He's definitely targeting sub-12:30 this summer.

That announcer was horrible though. My ears will be ringing all night.

Jakob could have run 3:28.61 if the race in Lievin was 1500m instead of the mile.

Now the question is, if improving 3 seconds untill summer is realistic. I think it's possible.
