This year would have been Jakob's career year. Now it will have been 2024. He can come back to that form, but i don't think it's in the cards to have another breakthrough.
never say never

never say never
Jakob in May 2024: 3:45.60 mile
Jakob in February 2025: 3:45.14 mile (indoor/short track)
Staying injury free is obviously a part of the game, and it's a darn shame, because who knows how good the 2025 could've been with that kind of shape in February.
Jakob has been through a lot. He has peaked last year and then he has been injured. His relationship or lack thereof with his father has to be another stressor. We shall see if he can come back from this.
Injuries happen in this sport, and people come back from them all the time.
That being said--Jakob has been at the top of the game for a solid 4 years now, depending on how you define it. That's a long time to stay at the top, and it is reasonable to surmise that a demise will begin sooner rather than later.
Yes, I know he is still young, and I do not think his performances will simply drop off the edge of a cliff. But like all top athletes, Jakob trains at a very high level of intensity, which is simply quite difficult to maintain. Hence his injury, which is not going to go away easily.
The problem is that injuries like this can spin out of control. You miss a good season, but you heal and get back to it next season, but then your lack of a solid season from the year prior leaves you more vulnerable to other injuries--then you get hurt again and miss time, etc.
