Federal employees are literally paid by extortion and theft. Get a real job you immoral thug. If someone isn't voluntarily giving you money for your services you are scum
How do you suppose we run the military? Or would you propose we just not have one?
We have the most guns in the world by far and we have nuclear weapons. Nobody is ever invading us. Our military is great at invading other counties and killing brown women and children though! That's certainly moral and just!
I'm still in my 1st year probation, and I really don't like my job much, but the telework made it tolerable, but that's about to go away. It also doesn't feel like it's giving me a ton of relevant experience for what I actually want to do, and being newer than most I'm probably one of the first that would be affected by a RIF. Should I just take the 8 months pay to look for a new job? Working in the office would be way better somewhere cheaper to live close to work than DC. I picked my housing with 1 day in office in mind, but 5 is tough with where I chose to live based on what I had before. Looking for a new job is a given, the only question I have is take the 8 months or keep working there and RTO 5 days a week. Picking that comes with layoff risk tho, so I'm sort of inclined to take the 8 months.
I would recommend doing a little research as most of that offer appears to violate some US law.
Take the deal and get a REAL job in the private sector. Govt employees are leaches, among the least talented among us, and a financial drain to the entire economy. Get out of that line of work, find some pride in yourself, and do something productive. Lots of opportunities out there.

So the nuclear weapons maintain themselves? The guns just grow on trees or maybe they get donated to the military?

This guy clearly has your best interest at heart federal employee...
Ignorant people like this are why you should read fednews to get the other side of the story.
i don't think what he's offering is authorized by the constitution or congress. so, for similar reasons to the 2 biden student loan reliefs i got screwed out of by the courts in recent years, i would not take the bait until it's blessed by the court system. otherwise you're not just out of a job, you're deprived of the carrot.
elon's hand is now obvious, i didn't know about the RTO part. it is quite the dictator thing to be like, i don't care if your work is fine and present unnecessary, you're going to be here "just because."
also, remembering that elon is a donor demanding this from millions of government workers, while not even in any recognized government post.
'Student loan relief' ? you mean tax payers paying off your debt?
Seems like you’ve already answered your own question. Plus, that’s good severance for a new guy. You typically get a month of pay for every year of service. If you’re relatively new to the job market, find a tough private sector job and just grind for a few years, see where it takes you. Government service will be there down the line and would benefit from more people with “real world” experience.

I don't know if you know this, but there are hundreds of millions of guns that private citizens have purchased with their own money from private companies. We don't need federal employees stealing money from people to do a worthless job. If it's not a job that demand has created, it's a drain on the economy. Or worse, it kills innocent people in the name of "freedom" and "self-defense" when they're halfway across the world. Nice "defense" budget that doesn't even defend
It's a trap. Unless you get it in writing in a contract, it's a trap to weed out those who don't want to be there. Don't fall for it. But if you want out, then just WFH and job search instead.

Agreed. It’s good severance for even a long time employee. If you think you can be a quick hire, you could get double pay for 8 months.
My buddy from FedEx (in IT) turned down a voluntary 20 month severance offer a few years ago, even though I told him to take it. They laid him off 2 years later with only 6 months severance.

sounds like you are one of the reasons for this whole thing. Don't like your government job, don't care, not what you want to do. maybe just go find a Real Job
Probably get deported or sent to the camp because the name sounds Latin. But take the 8 months, and take a week off before searching. Of course 3000 people lost their jobs all at once
He'll get a lump sum. Different agencies have periodically offered early outs over the years. This is just a more lucrative version of those. Nothing new.
bull. that's not what they promised -- and a lump sum over $25k isn't allowed.
I'm wondering who has the incentive to block it. Rs would be going against Trump's plan, Ds would be screwing over the employees, and Trump himself would look pretty bad if he refused to sign a budget with it. I could be wrong of course, but I really think my pay is potentially on the chopping block either way.
Hard line Republicans may vote against it as they see it as giving away tax payers money.
Democrats may vote against it saying it is not enough, it should be 12 months, which is quite common in private industry.
12 months' severance for people who want to voluntarily resign government employment? what planet are you people on, mars?

you're making assumptions. when my friend had this happen, he was told "your job is being sent to india in x months. if you work x months we will give you a bonus." so, yeah, he signed up, his job is gone.
all we know right now is they are offering disguised layoffs of dubious authorization.
Recommend reading/listening to Character Limit. The same moves are being made here, and a lot of people didn't get their money. Unless there's officially guaranteed payment you can prove in court later, make them fire you.

Of course I’m making assumptions, I don’t have the offer in front of me. I made reference to a real offer given to my buddy in the private sector.
I assume this deal will come with some kind of written offer that the OP and his/her lawyer should review.
At face value, it sounds like a good deal, but you always read the fine print.

These emails look nothing like official offers. There was the first one that has been reported and then several more in Q&A style. They instruct anyone who is interested to simply reply "resign" and hit send.
I'm deleting them as soon as I receive them. It's even more annoying that they are quickly followed by internal emails telling us that it's legit and we should seriously consider it.
