Interesting point. Haven't seen any rules about that. But, those who denied/lie at first to the AIU, and then admitted the truth before it came to the tribunal, got a reduction in punishment, and no consequences for lying at first.

Houlihan was offered a year reduction presumably so CAS could avoid the time and cost of an appeal. For her to turn down the offer, appeal the ban and then 3.5 years later she was lying through her teeth, would be acting in extremely bad faith. CAS was very professional and respectful towards her. If I was CAS, and learned she had admitted she lied to the court, I would go after her with every possible legal remedy. The IAAF policies for athletes do contain a good character clause and I think lying to CAS would trigger it.

I can’t imagine there’d be additional formal consequences for admitting that she lied. CAS already determined that she lied by hitting her with the penalty after reviewing the case, hearing an appeal and levying a penalty. I can’t imagine a double-jeopardyesque penalty would hold up.

Was CAS the entity that imposed the ban? I thought it was an appeal that was denied. It wasn’t a court case so I don’t know if there would be a double jeopardy issue, and any actions taken against her, wouldn’t be retrail over a previous not guilty verdict.

Regardless, it would be insane for her to admit guilt now. Doing so, after shouting her innocence from the mountain tops, would turn her supporters against her and make the people who hated her, hate her even more. It would be even worse if she turned “snitch”. She actually said in her defense that dopers should be put in jail, so I assume she will go to the nearest one and demand to be incarcerated.

It she’s overcome with guilt and wants to confess, she should wait until she is on her deathbed, to do so.

I don't see why. Smith is starting a new group so why would he taint it with one of its first athletes being a convicted doper. And this thread is irrelevant because there are lots off media showing her training with BTC.

If Shelby just came clean people would respect her more. But unfortunately if she came clean she would bring down a big name athlete with her. So yeah Nike does not want that.
