These are the 200s being referred to, quoted from Mantz's Strava: "10x200 with about 1:45 rest at: 28.8, 27.8, 28.3, 28.3, 27.9, 28.0, 26.9, 27.3, 26.5 26.2."
As I previously stated, the clown who started this thread went from "as fast as 26s" to "26 flat 200s" and finally "all out 200s." "about 1:45 rest"? That's nearly a lifetime.
I'm in my mid 40s. I was never really good or really fast. This summer I did 12x200 @ 30 secs with a 200 iog recovery. Last 2 reps were 28 high. I went on to run a 4:34 mile and 16 flat 5k in the following weeks.
I'm pretty sure a 3:37 1500/ 13:11 5k runner in his mid 20s can handle 200s @ 26 secs. If he can't, he's just as likely to get injured by 1k intervals, or a 4 mile tempo, or a 20 mile long run.
Long distance running has inherent injury risks. I have seen pros post what I consider to be reckless workouts of all types. This is not one of them.
Unfortunately, I do believe he is injured. He lacks discipline.
You've registered a username that is completely inappropriate compared to your "expertise". That was 6 months ago. Since then you've made exactly two posts -- both of them insanely vapid. Go on, son. Go on!

While I agree with you and many others who have said these 200s aren’t a problem, I do think Mantz is injured. He hasn’t run with any of his normal group since Tuesday. Wasn’t with the long run group on Saturday. Briefly posted a cross training workout on strava before removing it.
All that said, he could have gone dark and removed himself from the training group while putting on the final touches for Houston. If I was forced to guess, I’d say that four marathons in about 13 or 14 months then immediately jumping into an AR half marathon build caught up to him. My only critique is that he doesn’t take enough time to recover from each marathon which I think is evident in each build when cross training through some sort of injury.

You know what my "training block/taper" for the half marathon was? I was asked on Thursday if I wanted to run a HM on Sunday. I said "sure, thats sounds fun."
I'm not a gossip so I guess you could say I have zero curiosity what Conner is doing for his race. Its all pretty much the same.
I'm curious, why do you feel the need to "critique" Conner Mantz about his races? Your opinion has no standing. I think he knows what he's doing. What do you know? Whats your credibility?

Umm because this is a message board. Ever heard of it?
What benefit is there for a pro runner to post on Strava? Surely opening up your training to the scrutiny of hundreds or thousands of idiots can't be helpful.
yeah bc i'm sure that hundreds of thousands of people are reading Conner Mant's posts
Maybe Strava should charge a small fee for the access to Connor’s activities. You can follow him to know the general information, but you cannot see his daily activities unless you pay a small fee.

I agree with the majority of what you’ve said on this thread.
As far as why I feel the need to critique Mantz—my opinion is that he doesn’t recover long enough in between builds. That’s the one thing I would critique. Again, that’s my opinion. It’s based on several observations.
As far as what I know, it’s not near as much as Ed Eyestone. My credibility isn’t that of an elite coach, nor elite runner. As I said before, this is my opinion. Although I know Conner, I would not say that to him as it’s not my place.
Thanks for the insight into your training. I’m curious, would you have run quicker with a taper? Modern day training/racing knowledge has come a long way since 1982.
