I’ve been to Ukraine. Russia is correct, Ukraine and the west are wrong. If you ever been there you’d realize the corruption they have and how the west capitalizes on their country for their wealth and beautiful women. Russia should take all of Ukraine and merge and they will have much more stability and happiness. Some Ukrainians of course hate Putin, but they are just like spoiled teenagers who complain without thought. Ukrainians are very passionate people but this is their downfall- they think this is a war like the past wars where they go to battle and find glory and nowadays you go to battle and just die.

ukrainians need to grow up. Anyone who argues different obviously hasn’t been there or dated their woman.

also, unlike, say, syria, this is not a situation like venezuela where, whatever you think of ukraine's government, a huge majority of the people want something else. they voted for the people in charge. they are not begging for russia to come in and fix it.

this was, basically, when the USSR/CIS split up, russia let ukraine have the warm water port they had lusted for centuries for (crimea) and a useful mining area (the east). they thought, here, have the title, you're a friendly government. the ukrainians got sick of puppet governments and elected someone who represented them. russia then wanted take-backs. the lame excuse a la the nazis with france and poland was that USSR had colonized ethnic russians across the border who were no longer going to be allowed to pretend they were still in russia. if you think about this 5 seconds, this is like hispanic migrants here wanting to be taught only in spanish. and let's be real, this wasn't about the people, it was about the naval port and the coal and other mining stuff.

and that was before they hit the highway with tanks trying to topple the government in kiev.

last, anything you think ukraine does, russia does 10x worse. putin and orban are basically dictators who kill or jail political opponents, silence speech, close opposition media, etc. at which point the anti-minority and anti-gay stuff they do should take on a more baby nazi vibe. you think ukrainians are corrupt? have you read anything about eastern europe? you familiar with the panama papers and putin? like he may have billions sitting abroad.

Russia was not allied with Germany at the beginning of World War II. Germany had an alliance with Italy and Japan to fight against Communism (Soviet Union) and western democracies.

Russia had a non aggression pact with Germany before World War II because the Soviet Union feared being attacked by Germany again. Germany formed the aggression pact because Germany wanted to take back western Poland without Russia interference (knowing that Britain and France would declare war after Germany invaded Poland). Russia wanted to avoid a war with Germany since Russia was struggling after World War I and several years of civil wars. Russia also wanted to take back eastern Poland without Germany interference.

German and Soviet relations went cold once the Nazi Party took over Germany in the 1930s. The Nazi Party banished the Communist Party from Germany under the Reichstag Fire Decree and formally declared the Nazis intentions to eradicate Communism from eastern Europe all together (which was already stated by Adolf Hitler in Mein Kampf).

Stalin (who was a paranoid man) understood that Germany was going to invade the Soviet Union but hoped to delay a German invasion through peaceful coexistence as long as possible. Germany focusing on France and Britain would allow the Soviet Union time to industrialized and develop weapons under the Five Year Plans.
