Making the statement that we don't disagree is not correct. We are not saying the same thing. You also make up your own definition of words. Tomato/tomahto? Ok junior.
Your reading comprehension stupidity is not my problem or worth my time. I’ve explained myself clearly and stand by it. Basic economics isn’t a matter of opinion.
You: "not worth my time". Also You: Continues responding as much as possible.
As logical as your other posts. I do no agree with much of what you said, but I am also not your enemy.
First off, Americans are really dumb. You can blame the education system or the media, but not many people take economics classes and know how tariff works. When they trust a politician like Trump, they believe everything he says. They believed Trump could build a border wall and letting Mexico pay for it in 2016. The same American people believe tariffs is good for America and will bring prices down now.
Secondly, if you repeat a lie many times, people will start to believe it. This works in America which has a polarized environment. Democrats can push for gender ideology, and republicans can push for economic lies. Same tricks played by both sides of isle. You don’t have to be right, you just need to have the skin to say absurd things aloud, and make it appear true. If the lies can benefit the party, your allies will do the rest of work for you. America is in the battle of two alternative realities. Which side is closer to the truth is irrelevant in American politics.
Americans are about as dumb or smart as any other people. Who are these people you are imagining think tariffs will bring down prices? Do you have a reference for a nontrivial fraction of people with this conviction existing? It’s easy and lazy to think the masses are stupid but that that set doesn’t include yourself.

Yes, I know already. You posted this several times Junior. LOL.
So you too, think that none of this matters anyway because all trump is doing is playing to the crowd? Would have never guessed from what you wrote!
I have no interest or position on Trump’s future intent. His first term tariffs most definitely pulled some money away from China and diverted it to the US government and local producers (and also some to other foreign countries. So OP’s very first sentence is wrong because the tariffs definitely made China pay the US, which is exactly what a literal tax on China would’ve done.
Let's review. What is your point again? China makes less money if tariffs are placed on goods they sell? Is that it?
This is true if, and only if, the US company that is buying the goods from China doesn't buy them because of the tariff. So home run for you if that's the case!
The bottom line though is no matter if the US company buys the goods from China or doesn't, the product ultimately costs the consumer more money. So the US consumer is kinda paying the tariff, right?
So do you think tariffs are a good thing or a bad thing for the US consumer and the US economy?
Finally, if you have no interest or position on trumps future intent why are you posting about calling trump out for lying about how tariffs work?
Trump is not smart. How he tricked so many into voting for him is beyond me.
“Smart” isn’t an objective metric nor is it relevant for getting elected. He was smart enough to tell people what they wanted to hear both in ‘16 and ‘24. He didn’t seem to be dishonest either as in he acted (or failed trying) pretty much in accordance with what he advertised.

My points are already made precisely and you can carefully read through all my posts in this thread if you are genuinely curious. I don’t care to dumb down points into sweeping generalizations.
If you disagree with anything specific I said, quote that particular claim and explain exactly what part of the quote you disagree with.

No we are not. The American education system is a joke and rightfully so. We are like dead last among first world countries in every category of education. Americans are less likely to be able to evaluate things like the effects of tariffs for themselves.

Your bolded claim for all practical purposes is meaningless. It’s basic economics that increasing price will decrease demand, all else being equal. If that didn’t happen to an extent to be significant enough, that just means the tariffs weren’t high enough to be noticeable
The reality is they did have an effect and it’s all already in the past. China lost some money and the US pocketed some of it. That is exactly what a literal US tax on China would’ve done. Absolutely no one thinks the US can literally tax China, so jumping up and down about a nonsensical belief attributed to the “gullible masses” is pointless.

That’s a very specific definition of “smart”. One could give you a zillion other reasons for why Americans are smart or for that matter dumb. You probably have no idea how many stupid people exist everywhere on the planet.
FWIW, the American education system at the graduate level is the single best in the world if you had to pick one.
Trump tariffed the goods we were bringing in from Chinese factories. We raised our prices to sufficiently maintain our margins. Consumer paid the bill. No production was moved.
He doesnt use tactics. He goes by what benefits him. Some take that as confidence. But it is bluffing in the original sense: No backup plans just bluff.

The argument bhah makes is that tariffs are a tax on China. Then later argues they are not literally a tax on China, but have the exact same effect as a tax on China because China is harmed, the US gov't has more tax revenue, some local industry may have revenues increased.
This obviously ignores many important details, including - definitions of words - tax laws, cash flows, financial accounting - add'l US tax revenue is not paid by China in either argument, nor anything equivalent to that - US consumers now have to pay tax revenue from increased prices, which would not be the case if China pays the tax revenue - sourcing can go to the next best bargain, i.e. another importer, which also causes increased costs to US corporations and US consumers - China and other countries respond by imposing retaliatory tariffs, which also hurt US corporations and US consumers I'm sure there are more details but hey, China is being taxed! But, like, not literally taxed! But tomato/tomahto!
You can't disagree. If you do, you are stupid and your reading comprehension is bad. LOL.

It's hardly meaningless. It actually is full of meaning and the truth. And it gives you a home run on your point.
I started this convo with you to clarify your statement. And I just did it again.
I still don't know why you are posting in this thread if you aren't interested in trump's position or future intent but to each their own.
cheaper than buying Chinese steel. This will encourage the growth of US companies and give Americans meaningful jobs that will help communities where manufacturing jobs have disappeared. This reduces poverty in areas such as the rust belt where there are no jobs and people are just rotting away with homelessness and fentanyl.
So, you want the federal government deciding what goods and services you and others (including companies) in the US should buy and from whom they should buy them?
Everyone knows how tariffs work. The point is to make it harder for American companies to do business with foreign suppliers. This will hurt those foreign economies and lead to more American manufacturing. Also fewer drug dealers and gang bangers.
