I have spoken to quite a few of Dave Smith's former assistant coaches. Not one of them said anything good about him. The main thing everyone said was when something is successful he takes all the credit, and when something goes wrong he blames everyone around him and takes no responsibility. I have spoken to him many times and that is exactly as he comes across. But I do think his coaching philosophy is sound.
Seriously that’s still not like saying Dave is feeding drugs to his athletes. My point is so what? Is it really that bad in a day and age where coaches are having immoral sexual liaison with female athletes and high school athletes are binging on banned drugs?
Seriously I would be happy if my coach blamed me for screwing up my race because that’s better than a coach that sleeps around with his athletes or feeds them drugs? 🤔
The standards being he doesn't have s3x with his athletes and does not make them take drugs is pretty sad. Especially since most coaches in the NCAA, JUCO and NAIA do not do those things either.

Perhaps but perhaps not. To have one male coach have immoral sexual liaison with one female athlete is a worrying harbinger that more of such cases remain unreported and unprosecuted!!

how can we trust such a man to coach young athletes. Good that Chris Derrick and German Fernandez quickly left him as I suppose he offered them you know what and they rejected! Almost a perfect guess here! That was what happened. Chris and German are too clean athletes with too clean conscience!
im not a top coach of 30 years and don’t familiarise myself with the rules of sport and doping as well as a top trainer like Jerry and Salazar should and yet somehow I have heard of nandrolone and all the drugs?
and my profession is Optical Physicist not a distance trainer.
if Jerry isn’t going to know about nandrolone like he should as a top trainer, then do I expect him to know the first 50 digits of pi off the top of his head the way I do? I can recite it for everyone to show them my IQ level. Nobody on this forum can beat me to that I believe!

Bottomline is as an athlete you can only screw up the race you are running physically yourself. Dave Smith is right to blame his athletes for screwing up their races because ultimately they ran the races and were responsible for them.
The blaming is not the issue here. It’s the timing and spacing of the blaming that could be better managed by Dave but he would not be wrong to blame his athletes. Dave is so experienced a coach he can do no wrong these days as far as training and communication goes.
