Putting people into demographic categories, and allocating resources accordingly is not something the government can or should do. Every time the government tries to do something like this it ends in dispossession, suffering, and violence.

Makes you wonder if they are even trying to help people or of they know all along that programs like welfare are designed to nurture dependence (often along racial lines) and ensure that the normal resilience and culture-building mechanisms that people otherwise spontaneously deploy are properly hobbled.

Or you can discuss the details of continuing to kick the can down the road because of the short-run "needs" of people who have been rendered dependent and call that a "meaningful discussion." There is little less "meaningful" than bandaid solutions for such problems. The devil here is not in the details of how the program is run. It is that it exists at all.

Social security and medicare are easy programs to fix. Increase the payroll deduction and raise the cap on income for the payroll deduction and the program will be solvent for decades into the future.

Chipping away at benefits will be a disaster as more and more people are not saving enough (or at all) for retirement because of the high cost of housing, education and healthcare. If anything, social security should be expanded to provide benefits that actually cover housing, food and other necessities in retirement. Lifting the cap on the payroll deduction would help raise benefits.

The "right wing" and "left wing" monikers are not meaningful. And nor is the term "moderate." They seem to be tools used by government and media to keep people fighting among themselves while everything gets gobbled up by billionaires and corporations. "Moderate" is used to characterize ideas and actions on a similarly non-existent spectrum of intensity where divergence from what is characterized as the status quo is seen as undesirable, even if the status quo is either mischaracterized or itself undesirable.

Don't know about Musk, but the World Economic Forum loves Obama and sings his praises extensively. Look at the folks on the board of his foundation. Any billionaire philanthropists, lawyers, lobbyists, and cronies on there?

Newsworthy, if true? Has been written about extensively in independent media. May not have been written about extensively in media sources owned by WEF-member billionaires and other crony corporations. No surprise there.

If you're waiting on cronies to report their own crimes in their own media organizations you'll be a long time waiting.

But the thread is about Social Security, and not the degree to which corporate interests are driving policy though politicians in both the Democratic and Republican parties.

The right thing to do is to end Social Security, and minimize the degree to which government engages in theft from working people. There are other ways for elderly folks to be fed, which have historically revolved around multi-generational households that provide healthy meals and childcare. Of course in the Social Security, government education, welfare, taxation, and conscription world of cronies like FDR, the children are minded by the state, and fed by the state, and the elderly are left dependent not on their children and families, but on unrelated workers and bureaucrats. No wonder this nonsense totally unravels the fabric of society. Hard to imagine it wasn't intended to do so.

Nothing "right," "left," "moderate," or "extreme" about it.

The solution is ending Social Security outright and reorienting incentives so that families, and not governments, take care of their own.

It is more destructive now than it was when it started. As are all of the programs devised by bankers to render the population dependent on government, its fiat currency, and its ability to use violence to extract additional wealth at will.

This seems bizarre and hateful, and if nothing else proves that the sorts of classifications that people are being fed are divisive.

I'm not sure what use having money is when its value gets eroded by bankers and politicians at-will. Maybe that's why the value of gold is still hovering at all time highs. The folks who run the government use money as a weapon against poor folks who are made to buy into their rapacious corporations and debt in order to simply save.

As for your panic at the suggestion of diminished bureaucracy, worker have taken care of their elderly parents, and their elderly parents have taken care of people's children since time immemorial. This idea that families ought to be fragmented and socially and economically disparate is perhaps a century old and was only made worse by the mass-media brainwashing of youth which began in earnest with movies and television. Were teenagers in 1885 "rebels without a cause," or was that a corporate strategy pushed by industrialists to sell more stuff -- houses, cars, clothes, etc...

If their paychecks aren't being gobbled up by Social Security, Medicare, the military industrial complex, welfare, and 'education.' Heck, if taxes go in half a lot of folks wouldn't fell like they need two incomes and wouldn't feel compelled to trust their children's minds to the government.

What about the divorced people with broken homes who have bad relationships with their parents? They can be a cautionary tale. They made bad decisions and nobody else should need to pay for them.

It is high time people are envious for their neighbors skills, family ties, and thoughtfulness rather than their new cars, or fancy vacations.
