Seems like NAU had a bad race. Wheels fell off the last half of the race. Also Baloga and Stearns did not race. Nice race from Upshaw.
As an NAU fan it was a great race from a few key girls like Upshaw and K. Moore that shows the great depth. Inside info says Stearns and Baloga are fine and will be there. Add them in and the results are very different

These ladies are good, but night and day on course conditions from last year.
Fiona Smith bombed the last 2k dropping back 48 spots. They need her to run top 50 and Napoleon and Shea to get 10-20 spots better to be top 5 or 6 at nationals.
Smith keeps some of his top sticks out of the race. I wonder if this is a matter of him not wanting to show all his cards yet. after all, he's gonna meet BYU again in a few weeks at regionals then Nats.
that said it was unlike them to blow up so much in the last 1000. Maggie Congdon, Nikita Moore, Alyson Chucrchill, Ava Mitchell dropped big time.

A few thoughts. BYU super deep 7th runner at 45th. Good race by UW with improvements available for a few runners like Maatoug. Scary that they’re 7th placed like 211th. Huge drop off means NO room for error or bad days for the top girls. NAU had pluses and minuses for sure. When Baloga and Stearns join things improve. They are deep enough to hold out 2 plus Congdon faltered and they still got 3rd.
West Virginia only ran 5 and got 4th!
Tough day for Notre Dame top 2 did well them huge drop off.

Top 6 broke previous meet record. May have just gotten caught up in hanging w the top group and got over their tips? This is why they do pre nats. Great lesson. One BYU learned unfortunately at nationals last year
Great race by BYU. Notre Dame's #3 didn't race, Sterzelecki.. Still waiting to see if their #3 from last year - Grace Schrager - is running at all this fall.
