I just hope the elites don't have to run though smoke bombs like in Ottawa. The pic on the website makes it look like they have incompetent promo boys too.
Diamond league meets are training runs for real races, and Jakob is a workout warrior. If he went to NY, Kerr would’ve left him for dead. Jakob knows this deep down
Yeah with a pacer for 57min (what I heard). Maybe Jakob wants to go with that and see if he can hang? If not he can always claim a cold or the 1500 the day before, lots of legitimate excuses there (he needs them).
He’s not ready to run a 57:00 and trying to run that fast, will result in a massive positive split. No matter how he runs, he’s likely to own the result.
If Almgren could run 59,23 in his first attempt at the distance I'm sure Jakob (who's much stronger since he's also several times Europe champ in trail) can run 57.xx right of the bat.
Jakob and Jacob will push each other to 57 low if the weather is good enough.
Running a bunch of 1k-2k intervals at HM pace doesn't really prepare you to race a fast half. You need to practice running at steady/hard paces for much longer durations. Maybe Jakob could get the record someday, I have my doubts but it would be silly to count him out. But for his first time out at the end of a long track season, he'd do well to run 59.
Ahhhh I knew a LRC poster would finally come through! I am so glad you are in the know and know exactly what Kiplimo's and Jakob's training is. Thank you for that insight. Can you let us all know how their next workouts go?
Obviously I don't know his exact workouts, but the Norweigan-style training that Jakob does and what that generally entails is very well documented. Dumb comment.
I ran a 67 off of solely 1k / mile threshold reps. It was weaker than my shorter times but I’m best at the 5000 anyway. He runs just so much threshold volume and overall weekly volume he should be good.
That's my point though, you can get away with it and still run a decent time, but you probably would've run faster if you trained specifically for the half.

I think the over/under would be 58:00 or 58:20 to be honest. If he does run it, it'll be interesting to see who he runs with. Kiplimo might go out too fast for him. Sabastian Sawe often runs an even pace and closes hard — I could see them working together.

I think he is just making a statement: wherever I race, I am the person you will be talking about because I can challenge for the win.
No other runner (except Sifan Hassan who has even better range) can do that. It is in and of itself a huge honor to be "the threat" in any race you run.

In regard to having tremendous range, the difference between Hassan and Ingebrigtsen, is that Hassan has proven she has it, while he has only said it.

Except with Jacob in the race Jakob will not challenge for the win. The only people talking about the Norwegian are the 1500m-obsessed lot on this website.

Come on. He hasn’t even run a fast 10000m yet.
Short memory? Five years ago he SOLOED a European Junior Record 27.54.

Absolutely massive if true.
Is the WR going down?
So many of these posts make me laugh and wonder if the posters would ever be satisfied with an athlete's performances. Jakob has had a great season, and has been sick lately. So...
