It looks like milesplit is going to regional editors instead of having an editor for each state. Maybe states like Texas will continue to have their own editors it's hard to say. I don't think most of the state editors like Reyes were full time and this new western region editor is a full time position so it might mean better coverage?
I've been a contributor for MileSplit for over a decade now, just throwing together hopefully high-quality content as much as possible while being a college student, then grad student, then full time teacher, xc/track coach, husband, father to 2, etc....
The state I cover is one of the strongest in the country for cross country and track, (particularly distance), and our local MileSplit editor and state site/social media platforms have accumulated a massive following over the nearly decade and a half that its been active. Just in our state, we have had a lot of continuity with editor and contributors and we produce some of the highest volume of original content of any of the state sites.
The shifting of leadership and structure in FloSports has trickled down to MileSplit, and every year it seems like they try something new and contrived to fit MileSplit into the mold of a lower-budget department, which it obviously is considered to be now. There is no inventiveness in these structures, and DEFINITELY no structure of feedback cycles from the dozens of editors and contributors who have really good ideas about how to make this work.
The best example of this is the shift from state sites to these 'Regional' sites.
Our state (Illinois) had all of its social media presence stripped and converted to 'MileSplit Heartland', which ironically includes most of the 'NXR Midwest' states, and those states in turn had their social media platforms eliminated (each state still has a site so there is an incongruence there). The hope was that each state would have its coverage elevated, but (predictably) instead everyone (especially us) now has diluted coverage. It's really hard for any fan to see the stories they care about through the mess of five other states' coverages.
Any kind of effort to design the new structure from the bottom up would have produced a better format. But that's not how the business functions.
Coverage of HS XC/Track in Illinois thankfully is buoyed by a couple of freelancers who are able to finance their work in other ways.

So what this means is that within your particular state the Western Slope and other nether regions will be forgotten. Long gone are the days of Alan Versaw
I understand it's "fortunate sons" that makeup the webbies like letsrun, milspilt, and so on. Rich fan bois who cover our activities. Mainly the 2nd sons who can play around. The 1st son takes over the family business.
