Ingebrigtsen is one of the best in his era but he isn't the best. He has lost too many championship races and other crunch races.
Who is better when all his competitors have lost more championship races and haven't run as fast as him?
So he is less of a loser than the others? The runners that beat him in WC and Olympic finals were better in the races that count. He is simply one of a group now.

you are a strange little person with a weird fetish for absolutely awful takes. jakob reigns supreme, get over it.
im just here to tell phds and lawyers they shouldnt call themselves “doctor” in public and this is painfully ibvious even to me. get a life.
I disagree, because the 1500 is his specialty and his comparative lack of success there reduces his body of work in other events (2k, 3k, 5k).
WTH? It hasn’t kept him from setting WRs at 2k/3k and winning the last 3 championship 5ks. And he’s managed a gold, 2 silvers, and 3:26.73 in his “shoddy” 1500 record. There’s no way you can objectively claim he’s not the best of this era in the 1500-5k event range.
Yes, I can because he isn't the best in the 1500. He's been beaten too often on the big stage. If you want to argue he's the best over the 5k that's another discussion. But the subject isn't doubling.
Happens all the time. Messi and Ronaldo were the best in their event, professional soccer, for years with no Olympic medals. Does the best baseball player in the world have a medal? How many goals does Tom Brady have?
Wrong comparison. Their sports aren't defined by the Olympics. Track is.

He is the best in his era, no doubt.
Just give a name which you think is better than Ingebrigtsen at 1500m.
He will not do it: just giving a name. To compare. He will not do it, because he knows that he is talking nonsense. He will change the subject. As always.
Hocker, Kerr, Wightman - take your pick - on every big occasion Ingebrigtsen is just the next guy. You could probably add Nuguse now to the list. With runners like Elliott, Snell and Coe, who were the best 1500 runner in their era, they won Olympic golds and held the wr's. Jakob fans have lowered the bar for their idol. Is that a subject you can follow?

Yes, being better than everyone else makes you the best. You're not the best if you can only show up once and not sustain those performances. Jakob is the best because he's performed the best in championships and has run the fastest.
Is Wightman still better than Nuguse because Wightman has the global gold and Nuguse doesn't?

No, he hasn't performed the best in championships. The runners who won did. He hasn't been a winner for years. Your adulation of Ingebrigtsen (you are Norwegian?) borders on the pathological.

Who has been better in championships? Hocker who has competed in 3 global finals and placed 6, 7 and 1? Kerr who has competed in 6 global finals and has finished 34, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1? Or Jakob who has competed in 5 global finals and has finished 4, 4, 2, 2, 1?
If your argument is that you have to combine the results of every top runner to beat out Jakob, then sure, Jakob loses out. Jakob is better until either Kerr or Hocker wins another global gold, because his non gold placings are better than Kerrs and Hockers, and he's run faster than both of them.
And no, I'm not Norwegian. I'll ask again, is Wightman currently a better runner than Nuguse?
Absolutely no idea who you're referencing but there's this guy called Jakob Ingebrigtsen who is best in the 1500 but hasn't won gold in a few years
LOL. I really love Jakob… he’s great for our sport. I hope he keeps running the 1500m, I hope he sets the world record, and I hope he figures out how to win a global championship.
But no… he’s not the best in the world in any year that he’s failed to win the global championship final…. In 2021 he was the best in the world and he has the gold medal to prove it. 2022 it was Jake, then Josh in 2023, now Cole in 2024.
Next year I hope Jakob gets it… but he’s going to have to figure out how to beat the world. The other guys have him figured out… so if his strategy is to run (and lead) an even paced 3:28 next year, my money is on the world. If he does something different, then his chances go up. Good luck Jakob.

Wightman has been injured. When he was fit he was better than anyone else. But looking at the last three years what stands out is that Ingebrigtsen has lost at his main distance at every WC and despite trying to run the legs off the field at the last Olympics he didn't place. So every year there was a world champion who wasn't Ingebrigtsen and this year an another Olympic champion. That means in the races that count in the sport in the last three years he lost and there was another runner better than him. It's also shown in DL races we've seen this year. Only in this era is it argued that the best in their event is the athlete who cannot win at WC or Olympic level. Perhaps you have only just come to the sport.

Pretty much nailed it - although I don't share your enthusiasm for him.
I don't prefer anybody. He is just undoubtedly the best in the 1500m over the last years. Since you ignore any arguments which are given to you, any discussion with you is useless.
